Job Summary

A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced nursing care in their area of specialization.

They will be guided and follow the policies and standardized procedures, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some nursing, medical staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services.

In California, Nurse Practitioners (APRNs) can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under a standardized procedure in collaboration with a supervising physician.

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governances (OMAG) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.


Required Qualifications
  • One year recent related NP experience in adult population
  • Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of California
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
  • Active NP Furnishing License
  • Active and/or transferable DEA License to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice; it is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA License to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer
  • Current national certification in the specialty of hire and provide by first day of work
  • Completed a recognized graduate Master's Degree program as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Able to or already be paneled with Medicare and Medicaid with CMS and in turn eligible for CCS paneling as appropriate for Pediatric environments
  • Reappointment process occurs every two years following initial approval of hospital privileges

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in clinical database entry

Work Environment

  • Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.
  • Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.
  • Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.
  • Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.
  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
