We are looking to hire a hands-on Marketing Manager who will be in charge of overseeing the promotion of CESMII's presence in the Smart Manufacturing landscape. As a successful hire, you will be responsible for developing industry and role-based messaging and executing all market- facing communications, including PR, website, social media and collateral. Ultimately, you will help us build and maintain a strong and consistent market presence through a wide range of online and offline marketing channels, including the planning and management of CESMII's participation in market outreach events.
Marketing Manager responsibilities include tracking and analyzing the performance of marketing efforts, managing indirect resources to achieve the marketing budget (currently at $380k) and ensuring that all marketing material is in line with our brand identity. To be a successful hire, you will need at least 5-10 years of prior experience in the manufacturing software space creating marketing campaigns and strategies that successfully explain the value of adopting new technologies and methods creating impactful online marketing and social media strategies and tactics; having a portfolio of successful internal and external event management experience; and demonstrating strong communication and presentation skills that include the ability to explain complex digital technology concepts and technologies to business leaders, information technology staff and subject matter experts. Additionally, a bachelor's degree in marketing or business administration is strongly preferred.
CESMII's Marketing Manager will play an integral role in the institute's efforts to democratize the knowledge required to make Smart Manufacturing ("SM") a reality for all U.S. manufacturers. CESMII is the United States' national institute on Smart Manufacturing, ensuring the power of information and innovation is at the fingertips of everyone who touches U.S. manufacturing. Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, CESMII brings over $140 million in committed public-private investment through a consortium of partners from across industry, academia and non-profit entities. CESMII is the 5th Institute sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the 9th out of 14 in the national Manufacturing USA network of institutes, each with a specialized focus to improve manufacturing competitiveness in the US. CESMII's mission is to accelerate the adoption of Smart Manufacturing through sensing, control, modeling, analytics and platform technologies. CESMII's program and administrative is with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and with HQ office in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to headquarters, CESMII has a national network of
Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center (SMIC) partners. The SMIC's create highly visible, credible, high value, regional 'Lighthouse' extensions of CESMII. The SMIC's allow CESMII to have a National Reach, while maintaining regional attention to membership growth, satisfaction and retention. Since CESMII's has a national mandate to impact Smart Manufacturing across all industries in the USA, the Marketing Manager will primarily have approved public interactions at the national level, the regional /state/city levels (i.e., by leveraging SMIC and membership network), and greater LA area level. These public interactions will span industry, academia, non- profit associations, national labs, and government partners.  


  Minimum 5-10 years of hands-on Marketing / Communications and event management experience Required   Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex digital technology concepts and technologies to business leaders, information technology staff and subject matter experts Required   Experience working with software technologies to explain value of adoption. Manufacturing / Industrial Software experience a strong plus Preferred   Experience in developing externally facing content for technology education and promotion, including papers, articles and social media materials Required   Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior leadership, direct/indirect reports, and external units and partners, lead others toward the successful accomplishment of common objectives, and collaborate with others to resolve problems. Required   Experience working with non-profit partners, community groups, standards organizations and government agencies Required   Flexibility to work in a start-up type environment, wear multiple hats, and rollup the sleeves as needed Required   Previous success in an externally facing role with significant amounts of public interaction Required   Experience demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks frequently with short timelines, to prioritize and organize work and to complete assignments in a timely, accurate manner Required   Ability to quickly adapt to change Required   Able to write and create relevant copy for various marketing vehicles, including web content, press releases, case studies, collateral, etc. Required   Proven experience in identifying target audiences and in creatively devising and leading cross-channel marketing campaigns that engage, educate and motivate Required   A sense of aesthetics and a love for great copy and thoughtful communication Required   Good presentation skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills Required   Competent with office, internet, and other reporting, software, and research tools common to this role Required   Ensure that their area of responsibility abides by the policies and procedures of CESMII, the DOE cooperative agreement and UCLA Required   Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area and be able to commute to daily work location, and to CESMII HQ and UCLA as required Preferred   Proven work experience as a Marketing Communications leader or similar role Required   BSc/MSc degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or relevant field Preferred   This work is likely to involve some domestic travel, up to 30% Required
