Who We Are:
The Economic Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the administration of benefits to help Vermonters meet their basic needs. ESD is one of 5 divisions under the Department for Children and Families (DCF) which is one of the largest departments (1000 employees) within the largest agency (Agency of Human Services) in the state of Vermont.


The Role:
The Economic Services District Director's primary role is to oversee the administration of the economic benefit programs administered by the division of their assigned district offices. The Director is the leader of their districts and point person for community partners and other state agency, department, and division leaders. The Director is responsible for promoting and supporting local collaborative partnerships. This position is office based with the expectation of occasional travel to statewide meetings and trainings. oversee the operations of their assigned districts and provide leadership and support to staff including the direct supervision of the Economic Supervisors as well as the district administrative staff.
 
Location: ESD is currently recruiting for a District Director to cover the following districts: Brattleboro/Springfield.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting during standard State office times. Some travel may be necessary, for which private transportation must be available when a State Fleet vehicle is not. Frequent interaction is required with other community-based organizations. Stressful interactions with upset or emotional customers, over the phone and in person, will occur, therefore, the Director must be skilled in de-escalation tactics to mitigate issues. Safety and Security of all staff must be maintained at all times. Occasionally, work outside of typical business hours may be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in a human service field AND two (2) years or more of experience in human services program eligibility determination, human services case management work, or human services program administration INCLUDING two (2) years or more of supervisory experience.

OR

Associate's degree in a human service field AND three (3) years or more of experience in human services program eligibility determination, human services case management work, or human services program administration INCLUDING two (2) years or more of supervisory experience.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years or more of experience in human services program eligibility determination, human services case management work, or human services program administration INCLUDING two (2) years or more of supervisory experience.
