Overview
The Agency of Transportation is seeking an Aviation Maintenance Worker for the Springfield airport, and occasionally the Rutland airport. This position is responsible for maintaining the airport infrastructure by performing routine and preventive maintenance activities involving runways, taxiways, parking lots, and building facilities. The position also maintains equipment inventory supply used at state owned airports. Work is performed under the general direction of the State Airport Maintenance Supervisor.
As of July 14, 2024, the step 1 rate for pay grade 21 will be $23.76 per hour.
This position, Aviation Maintenance Worker I (Job Requisition #50228), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Work is performed both in a facility as well as in the field. Duties require exposure to extreme outdoor weather. An incumbent must be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and must be reachable by phone. An employee must be able to use tools and lift equipment commonly used in routine maintenance work. Normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, responding to accidents, emergencies and natural disasters are present. May be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Travel throughout the state to various airports may be required.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more of transportation maintenance or construction experience INCULDING BOTH one season or more of operating a snowplow with or without wings AND six months or more of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, rollers, and backhoes.
Note: An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in inventory or store control, and lighting/electrical.
Special RequirementsComplete Vermont State Aeronautics Training program within the first 6 months of employment.
