Overview:

 

The Research Support Coordinator is responsible for research data work that may include one or more of the following roles:


  • Extracts the applicable clinical trial data from the electronic medical record (EMR) and other sources, and the entry of this data into electronic data capture (EDC) systems utilized for clinical research studies from trial sponsors, National Cancer Institute (NCI) and affiliates as well as Investigator-initiated trials.
  • Conducts thorough screening for industry sponsored and National Cancer Institute (NCI) clinical trials to identify eligible participants for open and enrolling trials and collaborate as a secondary screener for pre-identified patients.
  • Coordinates the creation of EMR study treatment plans for both industry and National Cancer Institute (NCI), and transfers details to an initial intake spreadsheet that is the starting point for the study treatment build in Epic (e.g., Beacon Build).
  • Works closely with Pharmacy, Research Clinical teams and Mercy Technology Services (MTS) to ensure builds are completed.
  • Provides follow-on support and review for the protocol transfer from the 'test' environment in Epic to the final 'production' environment for study use; provides same support for new trials and trials with amendment(s) to protocols that may impact the initial Beacon build.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Associate's degree with 2 years of healthcare experience preferably in a research data entry role;
    • in lieu of Associate's degree, 3 years of oncology clinical research experience.
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Has basic knowledge of clinical research process and demonstrates ability to be instructed on clinical research fundamentals and study conduct;
    • Attention to detail and able to verbalize understanding of the interrelationships between clinical protocol details and clinical research patient care delivery;
    • strong written and verbal communication skills;
    • strong organizational skills, including ability to manage multiple deliverables across multiple projects;
    • knowledge of basic medical terminology;
    • excellent Microsoft Office application productivity skills, especially with Excel;
    • strong familiarity or ability to be trained and demonstrate high competency in the use of clinical trial management software applications and electronic medical record platforms;
    • demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to move from assigned project to project;
    • demonstrates ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment; demonstrates ability to complete tasks independently, accurately and within stated timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Education: Bachelor's in Nursing or a healthcare-related field.
  • Licensure: If a nurse, license to practice in current state of residence/employment.
  • Certification: Research certification (CCRP, CCRA).
  • Skills and Experience: In lieu of a BSN, 3+ years of clinical trial research experience or previous data entry experience as a clinical research coordinator, clinical research assistant or data entry specialist for therapeutic clinical trials; Oncology clinical experience, preferably in clinical trial research.
