Job Summary

The Security and Trade Specialist will report directly to the Senior Director, Site Lead. They will be ensure compliance with Canadian and USA Government security and trade regulations (CISP, Controlled Goods Program, JSP, ITAR, EAR, USCBP, Economic Embargo Regulations, Importation of Arms, Ammunition, Implements of War). They will provide oversight of site-level security programs, facilities export/import compliance and support company policies, licenses and permits. They will communicate requirements, maintain documentation and support investigations, audits and corporate projects to ensure adherence to trade compliance standards. This role is based out of our Bedford, Nova Scotia facility and is an on-site position.

As Security/Trade Specialist, your main responsibilities will include:
  • Administer Canadian Industrial Security and Controlled Goods Program, including screenings, registration maintenance and ITAR related items.
  • Ensure compliance with the Joint Certification Program (JSP).
  • Advise and Support Trade Manager/Director on export/import regulations
  • Coordinate and maintain licences, permits, certifications and agreements.
  • Review/approve export and import of goods; monitor shipments.
  • Maintain compliance files and metrics, prepare reports.
  • Support monitoring activities (self-assessments, audits).
  • Conduct investigations and address compliance issues.
  • Conduct training and maintain security education programs.
  • Participate in corporate/business projects related to trade compliance.
  • Conduct typical security operations to include physical access to buildings, room, couriers, clearances, packages, documentation and debriefings
  • Monitor security procedures; ensures compliance with all aspects of the program including personnel, physical and administrative security systems and procedures.
  • Ensure classified and/or confidential information is handled in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Trade Manager or Group Trade Director and various local functions in obtaining, maintaining and monitoring the necessary U.S. Government and Canadian export / import licenses, agreements, permits, certifications and technology release determinations.
  • Assists in collection of local training needs as it relates to export / import requirements and provides this data to Trade Manager or Group Trade Director.
  • Serve as Assistant Security Officer (AFSO) at smaller Defense Security Service-cleared facilities
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization.
What you require to be successful in the role:
  • 2+ Years of business experience; trade compliance experience preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of ITAR, EAR, USCBP, Export Controls an asset.
  • Certified/ Global Trade Compliance Certificate an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail; ability to multi-task and follow through.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as required and work well in a team environment.
