Manual Machinist – 1st Shift
Location: Commerce, GA
Pay: $23 – $27/hour (Based on Experience)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Status: Permanent, Full-Time Position with Full Benefits

Position Overview

As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating cylindrical grinding machines to produce high-precision components used in heavy-duty pump systems. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of tolerances, and the ability to interpret blueprints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate cylindrical grinders to finish external cylindrical and tapered surfaces on rotating metal parts.

  • Achieve tight tolerances and clearances to within ±0.00015 inches.

  • Interpret blueprints, layouts, and work instructions to plan machining operations.

  • Select and mount appropriate grinding wheels; dress wheels as needed.

  • Set angles, speeds, and feeds to ensure precision and quality.

  • Secure workpieces using magnetic chucks or centers.

  • Verify finished parts using micrometers, dial indicators, O.D. gauges, and calipers.

  • Maintain accurate part counts and enter data into production tracking systems.

  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 1–3 years of machining or grinding experience preferred; equivalent training or combination of education and experience considered.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use standard measuring tools.

  • Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Work Environment
  • Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to moving machinery.

  • Moderate noise level; occasional exposure to humidity and wet conditions.

  • PPE and safety training provided.
