Description

Summary of responsibilities: 

Performs structural assembly, sheet metal fabrication, and installation of aircraft parts, including drilling, riveting, and repairs, while ensuring compliance with blueprints, specifications, and quality standards. Skilled in reading work orders and technical documents, maintaining records, and using adhesives, sealants, and solvents safely. Experienced with precision tools and composite materials, capable of shaping complex configurations, and performing defect-free work. Maintains a safe, organized work environment, supports Lean and 5S practices, and collaborates effectively across shifts. Physically able to work in restricted spaces, lift up to 50 lbs, and flexible to work any shift. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations, ensuring assemblies meet requirements. 

  • Perform sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, or fabricated items on aircraft. 

  • Rivet structural assemblies and parts using required tools (e.g., riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers). 

  • Ability to remove fasteners without damaging the structure. 

  • Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, rivet patterns, and material requirements. 

  • Follow standard operating procedures when working with adhesives, sealants, and solvents. 

  • Inspect all work to ensure defect-free assembly before final inspection. 

  • Maintain and update logs and records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs). 

  • Align and assemble parts using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners. 

  • Shape and form complex angles and configurations per blueprints or written/verbal instructions. 

  • Perform repairs per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Requests (MRR), and Production Change Orders (PCO). 

  • Complete rework to ensure installations meet conformity. 

  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area, support the company 5S Program, and comply with all safety regulations. 

  • Use personal protective equipment as required. 

  • Properly collect and dispose of waste materials (fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, solvent rags). 

  • Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft. 

  • Communicate and coordinate work activities between shifts through turnover reports and direct contact with leadership. 

  • Assist in maintaining shop equipment and associated Job Safety Analyses (JSAs). 

  • Support Lean Activities. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Read and comprehending work instructions and technical documents. 

  • Strong personal skills: hands-on aptitude, professionalism, attention to detail, teamwork, and ability to meet demanding schedules. 

  • Good housekeeping and safety practices. 

  • Ability to work with composite resins and materials. 

  • Flexibility to work any shift. 

  • Physical requirements: climb ladders/stands/stairs, work in restricted areas, lift up to 50 lbs. 

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. 

 

Must-haves: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required 

  • 2 years related structural assembly experience 

  • Experience with Solumina and Smarteam preferred 

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
