Description of Duties
The Mass Spectrometry Scientist performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory procedures within the Bioanalytics, Metabolomics and Pharmacokinetics Shared Resource to support investigator-led studies, which typically contribute to larger collaborative research projects and grants. The Mass Spectrometry Scientist should have a strong working knowledge of chemistry and LC-MS/MS techniques in addition to sample processing techniques (e.g., protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, and derivatizations). They will independently develop and validate analytical assays for anticancer drugs and their metabolites, biomarkers, and endogenous compounds in biological matrices (e.g., plasma, urine, cell pellets, tissues, formulated products, etc.) using LCMS/ MS, HPLC with UV and fluorescence detection, AA, or ELISA. They will also oversees the development of assays for new compounds including compound optimization, extraction procedures and chromatography. The Mass Spectrometry Scientist also develops and implements the necessary standard operating procedures, method outlines, validation reports and study reports for the associated projects, develops a thorough knowledge of each research study, operates various instruments for assay development with appropriate quality control, and oversees the workload of technical staff for the timely completion of project conduct; records and checks results for completeness and accuracy, and troubleshoots problems as necessary.
