Job Summary: 

The Capital Asset Management (CAMS) Manager plays a vital role in the evaluation and allocation of $3.5+ billion of capital expenditures annually across the enterprise, leading the review and approval process for numerous capital projects submitted each year by facility executive teams ranging from $5 million to $100+ million. The quantitatively-strong CAMS Manager analyzes the financial and strategic merits of the various projects and offers value judgments on those projects and therefore must be well-versed in standard finance metrics (e.g., NPV, ROI, IRR, etc.) and maintain a strong, diverse knowledge of healthcare dynamics. The CAMS Manager should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate effectively on a daily basis with facility and Division executive teams, as well as on a frequent basis with Group executive teams and Executive Management.

Duties include but not limited to: 

  • Quality
  • o Authors and manages comprehensive, executive-level reports (e.g., the Executive Management Review (EMR) report, which addresses a project's scope, cost, justification, competition dynamics, clinical capacity impact, and financial impact.) EMRs are reviewed and challenged by Executive Management throughout the year to determine which capital projects meet enterprise needs and standards that can be advanced for funding. EMRs must be well-written, and the CAMS Manager must be well-spoken in verbally justifying the merits of a capital project.

    o Leads the development of special projects (e.g., McKinsey-requested data analysis projects) as needed.

  • Service
  • o Manages the analysis of several projects at one time in a fast-paced environment in which market conditions may dictate the escalation of various projects' priorities.

    o Recognizes opportunities and problems, generates appropriate solutions and ideas, and, as necessary, escalates issues to the AVP of CAMS.

  • People
  • o Collaborates daily with colleagues in the Planning, Design, and Construction & Equipment arms of the Capital Deployment department to ensure capital projects are properly scoped and priced and align with the strategic plans of respective facility, Division, and Group executive teams, as well as with Executive Management.

    o Manages the expectations of facility, Division, Group, and Executive Management teams related to the capital review process through frequent communication with respective stakeholders.

    o Conducts and participates in individual, monthly conference calls with the company's Division executive teams, providing status updates on and addressing any potential issues with projects that are in the analysis phase.

    o Provides support to other departments (e.g., Tax, Real Estate, Treasury, etc.) as needed.

    o Builds and maintains strong, effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the enterprise.

  • Growth
  • o Cross-trains with CAMS department Planners by periodically completing Capacity Analysis studies and enhancing the tools used to complete these studies.

    o Supports the development needs of CAMS through continuous process improvement of models utilized to evaluate capital projects.

  • Finance
  • o Determines the financial and strategic feasibility of capital project requests, typically ranging from $5 million to $100+ million.

    o Ensures the financial viability of capital projects, which directly impacts the company's financial projections, while also maintaining the integrity of the analysis process.This responsibility requires a high level of financial and business acumen with the ability to comprehend the various components of a pro forma (e.g., balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, operating indicators report, etc.) and attain a financial forecast that is reasonably achievable within the framework of the cost and scope of a project and in line with the overall strategy.

    o Develops capital project databases that allow for project comparisons and utilization of best practices based on the results of operations of previously-approved projects and prepares executive-level reports based on these findings.

    o Contributes to and improves the methodologies, templates, and tools of various data repositories.

    o Prepares and/or reviews capacity assessments for hospitals to ensure proposed capital projects support a demonstrated need for additional capacity or a new service line strategy.


      • Bachelor's Degree required
      • Master's Degree preferred or in progress
      • 7+ years professional experience required
      • 5+ years healthcare work experience strongly preferred
      • CPA or MBA preferred
