Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

Upon referral and/or request from hospital or committees, evaluates the medical necessity, appropriateness, and quality of care that patients of all ages receive when hospitalized. Works with physicians on an ongoing basis to inform, educate, and advise regarding patient care and hospital operations and changes. Analyzes data to determine areas of improvement for the hospital and medical staff. Provides medical expertise for determining community, hospital, and patient needs to improve overall medical care provided within the community. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of the facility. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values. The employee shall support the facility's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

What you will do in this role:

  • Analyses data related to utilization and quality and prepares usable information for presentation to necessary practitioners from medical staff and hospital.
  • Uses data analysis and case review to change behavior of practitioners to benefit the hospital, the patient, and the practitioners.
  • Serves as a resource to the Director of Case Management & Quality Management for medical expertise.
  • Screens quality issues before referring for peer review.
  • Screens quality issues for Code 15 reporting.
  • Participates in RCA's as needed.
  • Provides medical expertise to Case Management staff.
  • Maintains high profile among members of the medical staff.
  • Conducts ongoing review of high cost areas.
  • Provides individual physician counseling as appropriate.
  • Assists Case Managers with review of special care unit bed utilization as appropriate and contacts practitioner when necessary.
  • Assists Case Management to expedite patient discharges when complications arise.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Clinical practice with understanding of utilization review, case management, quality management, and resource control.
  • Served as medical staff department chairman and/or Medical Executive Committee.
  • Demonstrated cost efficient practice other qualification.
  • Experience preferred in performance improvement process, data analysis, computers, and communication skills.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
