The Highlights: Under the immediate supervision of the Head of Access Services, the part-time Access Services Assistant provides circulation services to students, faculty, staff and other library users at the John T. Richardson Library on the Lincoln Park campus. The Access Services Assistant helps supervise weekday, evening and weekend services and student staff per an assigned schedule. The Access Services Assistant provides supplemental support in related access services, such as course reserves and interlibrary loan, as needed.

What You'll Do:

  • Provides direct circulation services to students, faculty, and other library users including providing general directional assistance; borrowing, renewal, and return of library materials and loanable technology; processing local, consortial, and interlibrary loan requests; processing course reserves materials; assistance with use of reproduction equipment (e.g., photocopiers, printers, and scanners); stack maintenance; and assistance with room reservations within the library. 
  • Responsible for the supervision of weekday and/or evening library access services and student staff on duty per an assigned schedule. This includes being knowledgeable of access services policies and procedures and communicating this information to library patrons as necessary. Assists the Circulation Supervisor in the onboarding, training, and supervision of student staff. 
  • Performs library opening and/or closing procedures. 
  • Responsible for reporting out any operations, facility, or staff issues to the Head of Access Services at the end of each shift. 
  • Directly supervises student assistants while scheduled at the Access Services Desk. Assigns tasks to student employees daily. Assists in the onboarding, training and supervision of new student employees.
     
What You'll Need:
  •  Minimum:
    - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.
    - Experience providing customer service.
  • Preferred:
    - Previous library experience.
    - Supervisory experience.
    - General administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultural identities and foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace) required.
  • Experience with Alma or other integrated library systems (ILS) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a high level of accuracy.
  • This position will be based primarily at the John T. Richardson Library on the Lincoln Park campus.  The position may require occasional travel to DePaul's Lincoln Park campus.
  • Assigned hours may be subject to change based on staffing and service hours. Reduced hours may occur during summer and intersessions between academic quarters. 
  The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $18.70 to $18.70 per hour.  The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
