Description

The Highlights: Field experience and student teaching is one of the key components of our students' academic work here in DePaul University's College of Education. It's where our teachers-in-training get their first opportunities in the classroom at P-12 levels, where the proverbial chalk hits the blackboard, the planning meets the lesson book, and our students have their first opportunities to work with Pre-K, primary and secondary school students. In the early career of a teacher, it is an essential, even life-changing experience.

As Coordinator of Field Experience and Student Teaching you'll be a central part of it all by working directly with our students, bridging the way for them as future educators by coordinating and managing their placement within our P-12 public, private and independent educational sites in Chicago and the surrounding communities. You'll ensure compliance with all required state-regulated P-12 teacher licensure, documentation and approved program requirements and objectives.

You will support effective communication and guidance across all involved—from College of Education students and our program faculty and staff, to partner schools and their administrators, cooperating teachers and site supervisors.

Your Lesson Plans:

  • Placement coordination, management and tracking of classroom opportunities.
  • Program development, enhancement and student teacher assessment.
  • Regular communication and collaboration with COE program faculty and staff and relationship management with onsite partner schools' administrators and teachers.
  • Policy management which includes adherence to our college programs and policies, state educational regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Staying informed about academic field trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to the student placement process and school partners.
  • Team management including providing guidance and supervision to GAs involved in student teacher and field experience placement activities.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging professional growth and development among team members.
  • Collaboratively working to develop and maintain systems for storing and accessing comprehensive databases of required and relevant information.

What You'll Need:

  • A minimum bachelor's degree and teaching credential required.
  • Required experience working in a P-12 setting.
  • Holds or held an Illinois or out-of-state teaching credential.
  • Occasional use of personal vehicle. This role may require some work outside of the standard business hours.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders including COE student teachers, program faculty and college staff and supervisors, along with partner school administrators and cooperating teachers and site-supervisors.

Perks:

  • Working for a stable and well-known University that values diversity and inclusion.
  • Top choice medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Retirement plan matching contribution of 10%.
  • Tuition waivers for employees and dependents.
  • Generous paid time off, sick time, holidays, floating holidays, and more!
