Job Summary

The OHN Charge Nurse is responsible for being a key resource to our Injury Care and Telemedicine team by providing nursing support activities/services for the Injury Care and Telemedicine team during their assigned Charge Nurse Shift.

The OHN Charge Nurse facilitates appropriate and timely health care with the focus on employee  return-to-work and the return to maximum functionality. This is accomplished by providing the OHN  assessment and guidance at the time of a workplace injury.

The OHN Charge Nurse utilizes evidence-based guidelines (i.e., ACOEM, MDA, ODG) and employs best  practices that require early intervention and the setting of realistic expectations for recovery and return to work.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm MST with rotating weekends and holidays included in the scheduled workweek.

This position has a start date of Friday, August 22, 2025.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Responsible for assisting Injury Care Supervisor with the overall production and performance of  team activities including being the point of contact of assigned staff. Duties include but are not  limited to:
    • Assist WFM in assigning follow-up calls
    • Assist WFM in assigning new intakes
    • Work closely with Team Supervisor in supervising staff
      • Be a resource for staff assisting them with daily process and procedural questions.
      • Provide input to Team supervisor for staff evaluations
    • Provide input on process improvement to Team Supervisor.
    • Become expert of injury care clients and processes – to include assisting cases that require escalation.
  2. Provide telephonic follow up and case closures in accordance with Policy and Procedures
    • If successful contacting the employee:
      • Determine what course of action to take
        • Continue self-care
        • Consult a WorkCare Physician to discuss treatment options
    • If unsuccessful in contacting the employee:
      • Check the CSI and follow the instructions given for that client
    • Call clinic providers and obtain status from employees' appointment
    • Provide additional services to WorkCare as directed by Physician, Department Manager or Supervisor
  3. Employee/Employer Relations
    • Discloses information regarding the role of injury care and the rationale for telemedicine services.
    • Serves as an advocate for the injured/ill worker during the recovery process, provides support, information, and education to improve employees' knowledge about their health and self-care, and enhances their understanding of the health care treatment plan and process with the goal of safe return to work.
    • Counsel's employees on reduction of risks associated with occupational and environmental hazards.
    • Assist Management Team with educating clients on appropriate use of II services
  4. Provider Contact/Relations
    • Requests medical records as needed.
    • Directs care to preferred providers and negotiates as necessary.
    • Ensures appropriate use of medical facilities, early and appropriate referrals, and quality of care.
    • Identifies excessive, ineffective or inefficient delivery of health care services and redirects care as needed.
  5. Performs additional duties and assumes additional responsibilities as identified by Injury Care Operations Manager or Director of Clinical Operations for the efficient operation of WorkCare.

 



Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Graduate of Certified School of Nursing
  • BA/BS Degree Preferred
  • Active RN license required
  • Membership with AAOHN with certification as COHN or COHN-S or COHN-C preferred
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a case manager in health care setting

Computer Skills

  • Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment, Adobe Professional, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a desk.
  • Some bending and stretching could be required.
  • Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
  • Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • Air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
  • Work Environment must be free from background noise and distraction, noise level is acceptable, temperature is controlled. At home set up must meet all Company IT, privacy and safety requirements.

 

The hourly pay range for this position is $43.00-$45.00 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the final candidate within this range depends on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
