Job Overview:

The Director of Data Governance is responsible for creating and leading a holistic data governance program that enhances and protects the value of company data. They will work with stakeholders throughout the company to implement and manage the program, driving cultural change and continual improvement. They have excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills, and are passionate about delivering business value through data and technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Management and Governance
 

  • Identify and engage data owners, stewards, and custodians throughout the company in execution of the data governance program 
  • Ensure data ownership is clearly defined and data catalog maintained 
  • Manage data quality program and drive continual improvement 
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, records management, and operations to identify and enforce data retention policies 
  • Partner with architecture, applications, and infrastructure teams on development and maintenance of data architecture; establish standards regarding where and how data is kept 
  • Manage data modeling and standardization for enterprise data stores to improve data accessibility, usability, and quality 
  • Ensure protection of confidential data and compliance with all legal and regulatory guidelines 
  • Provide guidance, communicate and promote data governance policies, standards, and processes throughout the company 
  • Provide reports and dashboards on progress of data governance program 
  • Support reporting and analytics use cases company-wide by enabling stakeholders to find, access, understand, and use company data 
  • Ensure reporting and analytics outputs are managed and destroyed in accordance to data governance program 
  • Support development of data pipelines and data services 
  • Provide oversight of data engineering activities and escalate data issues/risks 
  • Other duties may be assigned 

Governance Processes & Standards

  • In partnership with the Data Analytics and IT Teams establish a Data Governance strategy and oversee Data Governance activities
  • Define and maintain master data definitions and represent specific business stakeholders needs

Stakeholder Management

  • Responsible to work with business functions, define and communicate data standards, policies and procedures for the organization to ensure a common business vocabulary, and consistently provide information to leverage data cross-functionally
  • Provide key support to use case execution, coordinating closely with business units to provide required resources
  • Support data owners to classify, describe and document the data sources and data elements using tools such as data dictionaries and glossaries, and ensure they capture the data lineage
  • Coordinate efforts and concepts to employ consistent data governance
  • Manage Data Governance presentations, metrics, dashboards and overall communications
  • Partner with legal and privacy teams to ensure proper data handling policies and procedures are followed

Compliance

  • Define and ensure compliance with internal data governance policies
  • Review and resolve Master Data issues and project risks.
  • Coordinate data rules and definitions brought forth from end users or project teams

Data Quality

  • Facilitate data quality program and implement appropriate changes to systems or processes to correct any data quality problems encountered
  • Recommend creative solutions to resolve issues in data policies, data definitions, usage, quality and metrics
  • Develop, analyze and maintain metrics for measuring adherence and improvement in data area of responsibility

Leadership

  • Community builder to foster data and analytics culture and to support data-driven thinking and discussions across priority analytics use cases
  • Collaborative with various stakeholders and Tech to set up the required processes, rules and underlying infrastructure to manage the data
  • Ethical, responsible and transparent leadership
  • Identify and assess training needs to develop learning plans for internal teams
  • Shape a data-centric culture, manage conflicts and create transparency in data regulations across the organization
  • Display regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

 

Job Requirements: (please ensure you meet the listed requirements prior to applying)

  • High School diploma or GED required or currently enrolled and successfully complete a GED program within 6 months from start date as a condition of continued employment
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, or any other related quantitative field AND three (3) years' experience in a Management position– required
    • OR Seven (7) years' experience in a Management position– required
    • OR Five (5) years' experience in a Management position with Wind Creek Hospitality– required
  • Master's degree- preferred
  • Seven (7) years' experience in data management– required
  • Five (5) years' experience with implementing and working with modern data science tools and platforms– required
  • Ability to implement data policies and principles to ensure data is both acceptable and accurate
  • Knowledge and experience in Google Cloud Platform and tools
  • Moderate to advanced SQL/NoSQL skills 
  • Experience with database design and analytics concepts
  • Experience using data management tools, such as ETL and data documentation tools, is a plus
  • Experience with Informatica Data Quality tools is a plus
  • Ability to effectively share technical information, communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business
  • Able to juggle multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize time and communicate timeline to team members
  • Ability and desire to take product/project ownership
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and technically
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs
  • Willing to work odd and irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willing to travel and participate in training as recommended or required
  • Must have a valid and current State Driver's License and an insurable driving record for purposes of driving company vehicles as required
  • Must have a Tribal Gaming License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) as a requirement for this position
  • Must have a PGCB Gaming License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) as a requirement for this position
  • Must have willingness and ability to work in a smoke/secondary smoke environment
