Job Summary: Coordinates and collaborates between school nurses, Office of Student Support, contracted physicians, and community health agencies to provide professional development and support district wide. The Willow school nurse is also responsible for maintaining accurate records, conducting screenings, attending to the daily needs of students and communicating with staff, parents and the community
Specific job duties
- Coordinates responses to any district wide health emergency, including vaccination clinics, disaster response and recover, and other public health issues. This will include planning with district committees and Public Health agencies.
- Works collaboratively with other nurses to schedule and lead department meetings. Prepares and implements an annual professional development plan for school nurses district wide. Works with the community public health organizations.
- Establishes and maintains MSBSD partnerships with community public health agencies to assist nurses in providing appropriate referrals for students and families with health concerns.
- Coordinates communication between school nurses, Student Support Services department, contracted physicians, and community health agencies.
- Responsible for maintenance of MSBSD Nurse's Manual. Conducts annual review and updates as necessary.
- Provide information for Administration, principals, staff, parents and community on Health services practices.
- Act as Training center for Medic First Aid to train all nurses to be Medic First Aid instructors and set up all blended classes for staff training. (This is being taken over by another school nurse for this school year)
- Develop and monitor a list of all district staff trained in CPR and First Aid for risk management.
- Train all new substitute nurses in the use of the electronic student information and health record system.
- Train all new school nurses in the use of electronic student information and health record systems.
- Answer questions from nursing staff regarding health services practice and procedure, the student information and health record system and state reporting requirements.
- Monitor the absence management system for the use of pool nurses for coverage if a school is without a nurse due to an absence.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree, Registered Nurse & Alaska Type C Certificate
