Job Duties

Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of Infection Control Nurse in the Nursing Department.

The Infection Control Nurse serves as the senior coordinator of the infection prevention and control program with responsibility for establishing, implementing, and promoting compliance with the hospital wide infection prevention and control program.

Must attend Infection Prevention and Control training and obtain certification within one-year of employment if not currently certified.

Successful candidate will have skills in:
• Developing systems that support preventing/decreasing the occurrences of healthcare associated or iatrogenic infections to patients, visitors, and staff.

• Identifying and reduce the risks of endemic and epidemic healthcare associated infections to patients, staff and visitors.

• Coordinating all activities related to the surveillance, prevention, and control of healthcare associated infections.

• Development and updating of educational programs for patients, staff, and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement accepted.

• Working experience as a Registered Nurse staff level with basic infection control knowledge and experience.

• Experience in nursing at the professional level with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and/or nursing care of the intellectually disabled.
