Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Quality and Engineering to lead and manage quality assurance, process development, and engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both engineering and quality control, with expertise in creating, refining, and implementing robust processes that ensure the highest standards of vehicle production. This role is crucial in maintaining the authenticity and precision required in classic vehicle production while driving efficiency and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  Leadership and Management:

  • Direct and manage the engineering, process, and quality teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  Process Development and Implementation:

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve production and quality assurance processes to ensure efficiency, consistency, and high-quality outcomes throughout the entire production cycle.

  Quality Control:

  • Oversee the quality assurance department, ensuring that all products meet or exceed company standards and customer expectations.
  • Develop and implement quality control systems, metrics, and inspections to monitor the production process.

  Engineering Oversight:

  • Provide leadership in engineering design, manufacturing processes, and technical problem-solving, ensuring all systems and procedures align with the production goals and the unique demands of classic vehicle production.

  Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across production, quality, and engineering departments. Identify opportunities for optimization in workflows, materials usage, and cost control while maintaining craftsmanship standards.

  Cross-Department Collaboration:

  • Work closely with production, procurement, and other departments to align goals, improve operational efficiency, and address any engineering or quality challenges.

  Supplier Quality Management:

  • Oversee and manage relationships with suppliers, ensuring that all materials and components meet the required quality specifications and standards for our vehicles.

  Training and Development:

  • Develop and execute training programs for engineering, process, and quality teams, ensuring all personnel are up-to-date with the latest industry practices, tools, and techniques.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing production and quality control processes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance systems, particularly as they relate to classic or vintage vehicles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with quality management systems (QMS), engineering design software (CAD), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field; additional certifications (e.g., CQE, Six Sigma) are a plus.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering and quality control within the automotive industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in classic vehicle production, restoration, or high-end automotive manufacturing is highly desirable.

Physical Demands (to include but not limited to)

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, office equipment, telephone, etc.
  • Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Sit for long periods working at a desk, boardroom table, or a computer.
  • Walk long distances across the shop floor to communicate and gather information as needed.
  • Must be able to navigate through various departments of the organization's physical premises.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and place items up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and below knees, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Ability to work long hours in hot or cold temperatures.
