The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science team as a Software Systems Specialist II.
The position will provide expert technical assistance to The University of Texas at Dallas Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) Staff and Faculty. You will be a part of the ECS-IT Team that is responsible for supporting, designing, testing, and deploying third-party patches and software to all departmental-controlled desktops.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent IT certifications with 2 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Windows and Linux system administration experience
- Application support experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Server.
- Experience with VMware vCenter and a general understanding of virtualization.
- Intermediate BASH or Python scripting skills, including understanding, modifying, and creating scripts.
- Must have Linux Administration Experience.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The position will provide expert technical assistance to the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science Staff and Faculty.
- Will design, test, and deploy third-party patches to all departmental-controlled desktops and laptops.
- Part of ECS- IT helping to secure and ensure that the department meets its compliance benchmarks.
- Testing, implementing, and documenting end-user computer security, patching, and software distribution.
- Assist end-users with software distribution, patching, and addressing vulnerabilities.
- Scripting (PowerShell preferred), administrative practices (group policy; automatic deployment rules; compliance items), and best practices for patching and correcting vulnerabilities.
- Work to improve workflow and simplify common tasks (imaging, software installs)
- Manage network servers and technology tools.
- Upgrade and manage hardware and software.
Additional Information
Remote Notice – After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. You may be required to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and can be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
