Description
The Cao Lab is seeking to recruit outstanding postdocs to join us in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Cao Laboratory utilizes and develops cutting-edge single cell omics, imaging and microfluidics tools to investigate on lineages commitment, cell type evolution and cell-cell interactions (e.g. Cao et al., Nature2019; Lemaire et al., Science Advances, 2021; Chen et al., Plos Biology, 2022). Our research aims to elucidate the gene regulatory grammar in embryogenesis and cancer development (please visit https://labs.utdallas.edu/caolab for more details).
You will ideally have a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, tissue engineering, biophysics, imaging, microfluidics or related fields. Priority consideration will be given to candidates with previous expertise in Ciona husbandry, genetic manipulation in embryos, confocal fluorescence microscopy, or 3D organoid culture. You should also have a PhD in a relevant subject, a sound understanding of developmental biology, and a strong publication track record in evo-devo, cancer or related fields. You will be expected to be able to work independently, interact well in a dynamic multidisciplinary team environment, and be able to communicate ideas and results clearly.
The Cao lab is well funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). A competitive salary, determined by candidates' backgrounds and experience, is offered, with the minimum benchmark meeting or exceeding NIH standards.

Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Ph.D. in genetics, system biology, developmental biology or biological science-related discipline with at least three years of experience in molecular biology.
- Ability to lead and direct teams of researchers including graduate students and postdocs.
- This position will require strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- You will investigate regulatory mechanisms in close collaboration with computational colleagues, utilizing genetic manipulation protocols, and performing confocal fluorescent imaging and image analysis.
- Develop new methods and protocols for single-cell multi-omics sequencing, genetic manipulation, and 3D organoid culture.
- You will lead computational projects, participate in research activities of the laboratory as a whole, and contribute to the supervision of students, providing an ideal opportunity to develop an independent scientific career.
Additional Information
A remote work schedule is not available for this position.
The post is initially available for 2-3 years, with the possibility of extension subject to available funding. Renewable pending funding availability and satisfactory performance.
