Description
Under general supervision, the Irrigation Technician installs, inspects, renovates, and maintains irrigation systems for the University.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent ; three years experience performing grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have an irrigation license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Landscape Irrigation Auditor certification
- TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnostics: Run systems to test heads for operation/coverage, check and set programming on controllers, monitor water meters, test and document results for annual backflow preventer evaluation.
- Repair: As problems are reported or discovered, make repairs. Work with construction projects to prepare irrigation system for demolition. Repair damage as it occurs. Ensure supply room stays well stocked for efficient daily operations.
- Troubleshooting: Monitor turf, flower beds, shrubs, and trees watching for irrigation related issues. Test systems to discover problem and generate solution. Test wiring, do tracebacks, and evaluate piping.
- Water Conservation: Ensure campus makes good use of a valuable resource through water conservation best practices.
- Documentation: Keep master list of all irrigations systems up to date. Work with mow and pesticide crews to ensure work sequencing. Abide by TCEQ regulations.
- And other duties as assigned.

Work Notice: Work will be performed on site and in-person.
