Description

The Director of HRIS at UT Dallas will serve as a strategic and technical leader, responsible for aligning HR technology with institutional goals and enhancing the efficiency of HR operations. This role will act as a translator between HR subject matter experts and IT developers, ensuring that business needs are clearly defined, documented, and effectively implemented in systems such as PeopleSoft HCM.

The Director will initially serve as the lead HRIS resource and will collaborate closely with IT to validate and test solutions. This position requires a strong understanding of ERP systems, HR business processes, and the ability to drive innovation through the thoughtful use of technology, including AI and third-party tools.

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.

  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience, which may be concurrent with the required five (5) years of related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle PeopleSoft, particularly the HCM module.
  • Experience working within highly customized Oracle PeopleSoft environments.
  • Familiarity with Workday and/or Salesforce platforms, especially in environments exploring or implementing modern cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience managing multiple ERP system integrations, including APIs, file feeds, and other common data exchange methods.
  • Experience leading or supporting organizational change initiatives related to HR technology or process transformation.
  • Formal training, certification, or demonstrated experience in managing complex, cross-functional Familiarity with AI-driven tools or automation platforms used in HRIS or broader HR operations.
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, and managing third-party HR technology vendors or consultants.
  • Experience developing and delivering training or change readiness programs for HR systems.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FLSA). Familiarity with the regulatory, budgetary, and operational constraints of public universities or government entities.

  • Specific knowledge of and ability to maintain UT Dallas compliance with FLSA, ACA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, & HIPAA requirements → Ability to ensure HRIS configurations support compliance with FLSA, ACA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, HIPAA, and UT Dallas-specific policies.
  • Knowledge of UT-specific policies and procedures → Familiarity with UT System policies and procedures preferred.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic alignment of HRIS initiatives with institutional goals by serving as the primary liaison between HR and IT, translating business needs into technical requirements and ensuring effective system configurations.
  • Lead a small HRIS team with strong system skills, fostering a collaborative and agile environment focused on continuous improvement.
  • Partner with HR functional areas (Benefits, Employee Relations, Employment, Compensation) to assess business processes and recommend system-based solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools within PeopleSoft or third-party solutions to improve HR service delivery and data management.
  • Support the development of documentation and knowledge transfer processes.
  • Monitor trends in HR technology, including AI, and assess their applicability to UT Dallas's HR strategy.
  • Represent HR and HRIS interests in cross-functional technology initiatives, university-wide committees, and work groups, advocating for HR priorities in system design, governance, and strategic planning
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance by overseeing system updates aligned with federal, state, and institutional policies.
  • Define and maintain standard and custom HRIS reports and queries to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Provide direction on system access needs and define HR-specific access roles for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring appropriate security and compliance in coordination with the university's central identity management protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal partners such as Budget & Finance, Payroll, and Information Resources, Information Security, Institutional Success and Decision Support as well as external vendors, to ensure seamless system integration and data accuracy.
  • Oversee HRIS-related project planning and collaborate with IT to validate and test system enhancements, ensuring timely execution and alignment with HR goals.

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule is available with manager approval. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
