Description
The Jindal School of Management is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Assistant Dean for JSOM Communications. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, multi-channel communications strategy that aligns with the school's mission, enhances its global reputation, and supports institutional priorities.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Assistant Dean will ensure all communications efforts are aligned with university and school-wide policies, priorities, and budgetary guidelines. This position plays a key role in managing communications-related risks and serves as an advisor to school leadership, including program directors, centers, and institutes.
The Assistant Dean will lead a multidisciplinary team overseeing graphic design, digital and social media, web content, publications, public relations, video production, and marketing collateral. In addition to supervising daily operations, the role involves contributing to strategic initiatives and special projects that elevate the school's visibility and impact.
As a key representative of the school, the Assistant Dean must be adept at engaging a wide array of internal stakeholders and building strong relationships with external media, community partners, and other constituents. A deep understanding of emerging communication technologies, strong leadership capabilities, and a results-driven mindset are essential for success in this role.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelors degree and 5 years of related progressive experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or management is strongly preferred.
- 5–10 years of progressive experience in communications, with demonstrated success in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proven leadership abilities with a strategic mindset and the capacity to manage cross-functional teams.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to tailor messaging for varied audiences.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive strategic communications plan—emphasizing digital platforms—to elevate the Jindal School's reputation and rankings.
- Promote a consistent and compelling image of the school's programs, achievements, events, students, faculty, and leadership across all communications channels.
- Direct the creative vision, development, and execution of advertising campaigns, marketing initiatives, and publications.
- Partner with university-wide communications to ensure alignment and amplify the visibility of the Jindal School.
- Tailor messaging and communication strategies to effectively reach and engage specific Jindal programs and target audiences.
- Collaborate with deans, the recruitment team, and program directors to create and distribute content that drives enrollment across undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs.
- Work in partnership with the Assistant Deans for Development and External Relations to support fundraising, alumni engagement, and corporate/community relations efforts.
- Establish clear goals and performance metrics to assess the impact and effectiveness of all communications initiatives.
- Uphold and enforce university branding guidelines across all Jindal School programs and centers.
- Oversee the strategy, content, and quality of all print, web, and social media communications.
OTHER DUTIES
- Draft executive-level communications for the Dean as needed.
- Create internal and external communications materials to support school-wide initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty and program leaders to develop content that highlights research, academic programs, and special projects.
- Supervise and support the communications team, fostering professional development and high performance.
- Strengthen internal communications to enhance organizational cohesion and information flow.
- Assign, manage, and track communications projects to ensure timely and high-quality execution.
- Design and maintain effective systems and processes for the smooth operation of the communications function.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean to support the mission and goals of the Jindal School.

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule may be available (currently 1-day remote weekly). Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled any time.
