UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services (TES) is recruiting for temporary dining and food services roles.

Titles include but are not limited to: Food Service Workers, Line Cooks, Sous Chefs, and Sushi Chefs. Working through TES is a great way to obtain permanent employment at the University.

Assignments typically last 3 - 6 months. Compensation: $18.50 -18.64 /hour plus vacation, sick, and holiday pay.

We are looking to immediately fill our food service evening and night shifts (APPROX. 1:00pm - 9:30pm or 10:00pm)

TES offers a variety of assignments, an excellent benefits package, as well as opportunities for skill enhancement and exposure to career opportunities at UC San Diego. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment.


  • Proven food service experience in a quality food or hospitality service operation, or institutional food service role; an equivalent combination of education in a restaurant, catering, or retail operation.

  • Well-versed in hospitality, attention to detail, and quality control.

  • Demonstrated skill to interact and communicate positively with other staff, students and customers.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations, multiple deadlines, and difficult multi-tasking environments in a calm professional manner.

  • Ability to set and deliver quality meal service as ordered, on time, hot and in accordance with hospital and food safety standards.

  • Strong mathematical, cash handling, and accounting skills to operate a cash register, accurately complete forms, and service records.

  • Must be reliable and punctual.

Applicable to lead roles:

  • Knowledge and skill in teaching and delegating of tasks to subordinates, and effectively monitoring and evaluating their performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a shift lead or supervising within the food industry.

  • Possess basic computer skills; knowledge of accessing online resources and training.

  • Degree in Nutrition or related field.

  • Training in food and/or hospitality services.

  • Flexible availability for evening & night shifts (may be scheduled on weekends and/or holidays).
