Department Marketing Statement: 

Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE) houses 10,000 students, faculty and family residents on campus, provides support services for 9,300 students residing in the communities adjacent to the campus, serves 21,000 customers daily in its retail and board dining programs, manages the UCSB Campus Store and University Center, hosts 150,000 guests annually for conferences and meetings, manages a major events center (Events Center), and oversees the administration of transportation, parking and fleet services. Additional responsibilities in the HDAE portfolio include Administrative & Residential Information Technology (ARIT) and The Club & Guest House. HDAE employs 600 full-time employees and 1,800 student employees. HDAE maintains a physical plant of more than 3 million square feet of buildings and 250 acres of grounds and landscaping.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, performs custodial duties in accordance with established standards and instructions for the UCSB Events Center and for University owned Residence Halls and Apartments. May be required to perform other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the department. Promotes a customer service environment to clients and residents. Responsible for completing job duties that demonstrate support for Housing, Dining, & Auxiliary Enterprises.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others as a team. 
  •  Must have effective communication skills.
  • Ability to interact as a team member with sensitivity towards a multi-cultural work environment. 
  • Working knowledge and experience in utilizing the following equipment: vacuums, conventional and high-speed buffers, extractors and related custodial equipment desirable (Will train on all equipment and chemicals used.)
  • Experience in a custodial cleaning operation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to read, writing and follow oral and written instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

●         Working experience in a College and/or University Residential or hospitality

Events Center Cleaning Duties

Cleans and maintains Events Center athlete's locker rooms and athlete's bathrooms/showers. Washes and repairs shower curtains. Cleans and maintains Events Center public restrooms, mezzanine/building entrances, windows, office spaces, lounge/press conference rooms, video room, massage room, concessions area, breakrooms, hallways, carpets, stairs, elevator, walls, light fixtures, and water fountains.  Empties and cleans trash cans. Moves heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies as directed.  Utilizes the following equipment: squirt bottles, squeegee, aerosol can, canister/upright vacuum, mop, sweeper, wet mop, pressure washer, and leaf blower.

 

Maintains floors and carpets in all areas. Utilizes the following equipment: canister/upright  vacuum, wet mop, broom/push broom, dust mop, power floor buffers, mop bucket/wringer,  hot water extractor/steam cleaner, wet/dry vacuum, fans and dehumidifier. Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubber and buffers.

 

Clean and dust furniture, display cases, fixtures, doors, walls and fabric-covered wallboard. Utilizes the following equipment: cleaners, squirt bottles, aerosol cans, safety scraper, putty  knife, high dusters, towels, doodle bugs, powered wall washing machine. May work on a ladder.

 

Washes window sills, glass surfaces, all door trim and door fixtures. Utilizes the following  equipment: cleaners, squirt bottles, towels and squeegee.

 

Cleans elevators, including walls and operating hardware. Utilizes the following equipment:  vacuum, broom, dust mop, wet mop, mop wringer, squirt bottles, cleaners and towels.

 

    May be required to work night and weekend events

HDAE Custodial Support

Cleans and maintains University owned Residence Halls, Apartments, and other buildings as directed.  Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; fixtures, mirror, tile showers, tile flooring, and urinals,  Replenishes restroom supplies, disposes of trash.  Maintains hallways and stairways, lounges, public areas, office spaces, and building entrances.  Dusts and cleans windows.  Maintains floors and carpets in all areas. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubber and buffers  Utilizes the following equipment: cleaners, squirt bottles, squeegees, power washers, brooms, mops, mop wringer, hoses, brushes, towels, foam gun can, canister/upright vacuum, mop, sweeper, wet mop, broom/push broom, dust mop, power floor buffers, mop bucket/wringer, hot water extractor/steam cleaner, wet/dry vacuum, fans and dehumidifier.

 

Summer Conference Season (Approx June 20th - Sept 20th):  Provides daily linen change (sheets and towels) and room service to conferees. Vacuums, dusts, empties trash, makes beds and any other necessary cleaning tasks required. Supplies amenities to conferees. On a daily basis, performs all custodial tasks in addition to summer conference custodial duties. May be required to work as a team member in another building in order to meet the operational needs of the Summer Conference Season.  Keeps carts and custodials supplies in a clean and well stocked condition. Maintains all equipment, ensuring that everything is in a safe working condition.
