Job Summary

The Sr. Auto Equipment Operator provides transportation services for Alzheimer's research participants living in Northern California to various medical facilities in Sacramento and Walnut Creek.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Class C California driver's license.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques and skill to transport patients without Injury to self, patient, or others.
  • Ability and skill to safely operate a wheelchair and transfer a patient from a vehicle to a wheelchair.
  • Ability to use good judgement to make appropriate decisions for the circumstances.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changing schedules or priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate English both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment should a medical emergency occur during a patient transport.
  • Ability to deal effectively and kindly with patients who may be confused, upset, incoherent, and/or aggressive.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to work a shift longer than 8 hours.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal in a tactful, courteous, pleasant, and professional manner with patients, visitors, and other clinic staff which includes individuals with various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Must be organized and efficient.
  • Must have computer skills to communicate effectively via email and plan trips using mapping applications.
  • Must be reliable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience transporting patients who may be impaired or not ambulatory is preferred.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache, and sleep disorders.

Our faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children. We partner with colleagues from throughout the health system and work closely with the Department of Neurological Surgery to provide multidisciplinary team management for neurological disorders. We also offer cutting-edge diagnostic approaches, including advanced neuroimaging technologies and access to trials of new medications and other therapeutic modalities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will be required to participate in the UCD DMV Pull Notice System (UCD Policy and Procedure #380-20) to ensure a safe driving record, to complete safety training for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, UCO Safe Driver Awareness Course.
  • CPR training and certification within 90 days of hire and First Aid training within one calendar year of hire.
  • This position is located In Walnut Creek.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
  • As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs, as may be amended or revised from time to time.  Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
