Department Summary:

Our goal at the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) is to provide principal investigators assistance with proposal preparation and with resources and expertise so that they may better understand contract and grant administration and successfully administer sponsored awards.  The UC ANR OCG is the authorized organizational representative for all extramurally sponsored projects at UC ANR.

 

Position Summary:

Responsible for coordinating high-level, complex, and competitive proposals for institution-wide external funding opportunities, providing technical assistance to faculty and employees in all aspects of pre-and post-award non-financial functions of externally funded programs, and researching developing trends and current funding opportunities to support institutional programs and initiatives.

 

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

 

The home department for this position is Contracts and Grants Office. While this position normally is based at 2801 Second Street, Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University. 

 

Pay Scale: $78,700/year to $111,900/year

Proposal Opportunity Development

Independently identify and analyze significant and complex funding opportunities and consult with faculty to turn ideas into effective proposals.

Maintain awareness of specific funding opportunities as well as trends in the development of such opportunities; consult with and advise clients on opportunities.

Maintain awareness of ANR's mission, and current, and future research programs and utilize that information to drive development opportunities for faculty.

Analyze opportunities in light of the interests and circumstances of researchers and groups, and provide abstracts and summaries that assist researchers in selecting among opportunities.

Proposal Writing/Development

Develop, write, and edit proposal content, including budgets, in coordination with faculty. Provide consultation and assistance to faculty in program development strategy and proposal development. Work with faculty to develop competitive responses.

Solicit, collect, organize, edit and redact materials from multiple sources as appropriate in order to prepare coherent proposals that meet sponsor requirements, express the potential of the researchers' work in the manner

most likely to appeal to sponsors' needs, and effectively address review criteria.

Edit material for structure, completeness, accuracy, consistency, and appropriateness of content, as well as grammar and readability.

Develop or refine organizational boilerplate materials (resumes, facilities, capability text) and develop new content to assist faculty in proposal writing.

Program Assessment

Assist Associate Director with oversight of the proposal development program assessment and development of systems for assessment and decision support.

Collect, organize and analyze data relevant to the assessment and continuous improvement of programs.

Design and coordinate with Associate Director to develop systems for efficiently obtaining relevant data.

Training

Creation of detailed and informative seminars and workshops assisting the research community in developing program and proposal development skills, fostering familiarity across ANR's interests and capabilities, and

facilitating collegial interactions.

 

Requirements:

·         Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

·         Advanced education in Business or a related field or equivalent experience in preparing grant proposals.

·         Familiarity with major federal and state agency programs and their funding goals.

·         A track record of successful proposals (including government proposals).

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong proofreading abilities, attention to detail and organizational skills.

·         Advanced project management, organizational and problem recognition, and resolution skills

·         Ability to work a fast-paced environment and meet extremely structured deadlines.

·         Experience in developing and delivering training.

·         Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite programs and internet applications.

·         Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.

·         Advanced research and fact verification skills.

·         Advanced knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation and advanced skills to write clear, lively, engaging, compelling and effective copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and the broader public.

·         Advanced interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.

 

Preferred Skills:

·         Advanced, in-depth knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.

·         Advanced knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and / or health sciences.

·         Advanced skill in taking initiative to creatively identify and pitch story ideas to senior management and clients.

 

Special Conditions of Employment:

·         Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.

·         The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
