Job Summary

 

Project Policy Analyst 5


The hire will apply substantial expertise in forest and shrubland restoration, disturbances, and climate change, and project leadership to develop an interagency strategic program that will have significant impact and influence on policies, investments, and directives related to the management of forests and shrublands. The position will be the external face of the program and will regularly engage and coordinate with senior leaders of state and federal agencies, as well as senior academic and governmental researchers. Primary duties will focus on the development of a guidance document in support of the strategic direction for an interagency task force.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 10 – 20 years of experience working for natural resource focused governmental agencies in research and or senior leadership positions
  • Demonstrated experience leading research programs and managing teams of scientists and partners
  • Demonstrated experience applying GIS and managing geospatial datasets
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-organization collaborative projects
  • Expert in land management and restoration, climate science, and ecological disturbances, and their interactions
  • Skilled in applying GIS, interpreting geospatial data, conducting data analyses
  • Skilled in contributing to addressing complex issues, such as landscape scale management and restoration of forests and shrublands

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert in current state of the science regarding natural resource challenges in California, such as tree mortality, drought, severe wildfires, and extreme weather
  • Skilled at managing budgets
