Position Summary: 

The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner is a member of the intensive care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of critically ill complex patients in an intensive care setting. The critical care NP has specialized skill and knowledge related to the unique ICU setting in which s/he practices and performs physical exams, collected and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU, according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards.  The critical care NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession.  Duties may include obtaining patient health histories and complete physical examinations, documenting findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.  Mya also need to explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff, and healthcare learners. Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.  Document patient preparation and response to procedure(s). Formulate and implement treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated critical care supervising physician(s).

Salary Range: 

 

Hourly Rate  Minimum   $65.32                   Midpoint               $82.34                   Maximum $104.52

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Masters of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Five years clinical nursing experience (Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience)
  • IU/critical care nursing experience required
  • Must be able to intubate patients or willing to perform this function once trained as well as managing critical situations including central line placements and codes
  • Current CA RN License
  • Current CA Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification
  • CA Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Certificate
  • Current National Provider identification
  • Current DEA License at time of credentialing (MSN graduates from 2008-present are required to have and maintain National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner for the patient population being served)
  • Current AHA BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification
  • Current NIHSS certification

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Doctorate Nursing Practice Degree
  • 2 years as a nurse PR actioner Licensure/Certification: Sub-specialty certification in practice area.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients service including knowledge of principles of growth and development and psychosocial characteristics and interventions for young adults (18-45 years), middle adult (40-60 years), older adult (60-years)
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess and interpret age appropriate data about the patient's status in order to identify age-specific needs and provide the care needed
  • Demonstrates age appropriate communication skills for the patient population served
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific community resources
  • Has a functional knowledge/can perform a neuro physical assessment in Spanish, Chinese, or Cambodian
  • Treats all information within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security
  • Has a functional knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations
  • Participates in performance improvement projects to improve process and patient outcome
  • May include exposure to potentially hazardous material, infectious agents, contact with patients, public, ands staff
  • Able to function in an environment that includes crisis situations while exercising appropriate interpersonal and critical thinking skills
