Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is: CSW 2: $72,155.87/yr. - $101,012.41/yr. / CSW 3: $80,173.19/yr. - $112,236.02/yr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Mobile Crisis Clinician (Clinical Social Worker 2 or Clinical Social Worker 3)

The UCSB Community Safety Response Team (CSRT)  is a collaborative effort between Student Health Services (SHS), CAPS, and UCPD to provide a holistic and specialized response for students experiencing a mental health crisis.  The co-response crisis team is designed to implement a vision for campus safety response that is led by trained mental health professionals to transform safety response in a way that advances a culture of trust, respect, and dignity for our diverse campus community.  As a member of this team, you will provide multiculturally informed screening/evaluation, wellness checks, de-escalation, follow up, care coordination and outreach based on the severity and  complexity of  need.  The Mobile Crisis Clinician reports  to the Director of Social Work in UCSB Student Health.  Mobile Crisis Clinicians who are associates (ASW or AMFT) will perform their duties under the formal clinical supervision of the Social Work Director following the guidelines established by the California BBS. Mobile Crisis Clinicians who are licensed (LCSW or LMFT)will perform their duties independently under their full licensure.

 

A Masters degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy is required for both levels. At the CSW 2 level, you must be registered as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Associate in Marriage and Family Therapy (AMFT) with related experience preferred; at the CSW 3 level, must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 3 years post-Masters experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or in Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited program. 
  • CSW 2: California Associate Clinical Social Worker or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist registration.  
  • CSW 3: California Licensed Clinical Social Worker license or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Certified in CPR for healthcare professionals or able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • CSW 3: 3 years of post-Masters experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in crisis intervention or delivery of mental health services in non-traditional settings, preferably field based intervention. 
  • Experience interacting with diverse individuals of various ethnic, race, social, cultural, economic, political, sexual orientation and gender identities. 
  • Demonstrated multicultural experience, skills and expertise providing culturally competent and trauma informed services to a BIPOC client population.

  • Student Health requires all clinical staff successfully pass the fingerprint background check and credentialing process before the start date.
  • To comply with Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.
  • Shift: Days/Evenings/Swing Shift/ Weekends.
  • Days: Wed.-Sun. or Sun.-Wed. 
  • Hours: 10-hour shifts, generally 2:00pm-12:00am
  • Must be able to work a variable schedule and to work on-call.
  • Must be willing to become certified for 5150/involuntary hospitalization.
  • Any HIPAA or FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.
  • Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Mobile Crisis Intervention and Prevention (85%)

Clinical Social Worker 2: The following Clinical Services will be provided under the formal clinical supervision of the licensed Social Work Director following the guidelines established by California BBS. The Director will oversee staff case assignments.

Clinical Social Worker 3: Perform below duties independently with full licensure.

  • Provides safety response to individuals within our campus community who are experiencing a mental health crises, mild intoxication or social service related issues occurring in the context of a wide array of concerns, acuity, severity, and complexity.
  • Applies brief, crisis oriented interventions to de-escalate crisis and coordinates follow up care.
  • Evaluation & assessment of suicide risk/harm to others risk, precipitating events for the crisis, strengths, supports and other factors impacting resolution of crisis.
  • Facilitates inpatient/hospital care when indicated. (Once certified, writes 5150's/Involuntary Hospitalization holds to Crisis Stabilization Program). Is involved with post crisis planning, follow up, and outreach to impacted individuals.
  • Collaborates with CAPS, non clinical case management, CARE.  May include campus safety officers, UC Police Department, and Risk Services regarding responding to students in distress as appropriate to the needs of the situation.
  • Works closely with the dispatch communication team to strategize call responses and  transport needs in collaboration with SHS social work supervisor/or acting team lead regarding patient care.
  • Provides post crisis response follow up and connection to needed services, and outreach to students affected/involved in incidents that promoted crisis response.  May work in collaboration with post-hospitalization and discharge for UCSB students.
  • In the event that a response is made to a non student, will coordinate linkage to community resources for follow up.
  • May respond to high intensity situations with police and fire; Communicates with police to provide backup as indicated.
  • Contributes to and promotes behavioral health education to interdisciplinary team members and collaborators of the co-response team.  This may extend to our broader campus community to ensure knowledge of the protocols and availability of this resource.
  • Maintains strong professional relationships with on and off campus mental health and support departments including: basic needs, clinical and non clinical case management, mental health and substance use treatment providers, CARE, academic support, etc.
  • Expansion of outcome monitoring and follow-up services for students in crisis.
  • Provides a regular presence on campus as part of the Mobile Crisis Response Team as dispatched by central communications and during routine rounds.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects the boundaries of clients experiencing emotional distress.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of behavioral health intervention programs in conjunction with Mobile Crisis Intervention Supervision.
  • Documents services provided; Records and tracks relevant call data.
  • Develops, secures, and maintains any equipment or instructional materials needed to conduct interventions and provide support.
  • Attends required department and clinic meetings and shares in other responsibilities as relevant.
  • Completes all required trainings.

Administrative Duties (15%)

Clinical Social Worker 2:

  • All clinical documentation to be reviewed by the Social Work Director or licensed designee.

Clinical Social Worker 3:

  • Independently manages clinical documentation.
  • Document clinical services in Student Health electronic record. Regularly meet with the supervisor. Attend Student Health and campus trainings as appropriate. Attend Student Health staff meetings. Participate on various departmental and interdepartmental committees as appropriate. Attend campus and community meetings as appropriate. Attend professional development and trainings.
