Job Summary

The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. 

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. 

Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Moderate Sedation certification
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • At least three (3) years of recent RN GI procedural experience.
  • Moderate sedation experience
  • Experience and advanced understanding of airway management
  • Experience interpreting lab results
  • Experience monitoring cardiac rhythms
  • Experience providing nursing care in the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure phases of upper and lower endoscopy
  • Experience providing direct patient care including starting IVs, drawing lab specimens, and administering medication. 
  • Experience caring for patients with GI and liver diseases such as motility disorders, functional bowel disorders, Crohn's, IBD, GERD, hepatitis B and C, cholangitis, and cirrhosis.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. 
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately. 
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing. 
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care.

  • Mastery of Relational Competencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing 
  • Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse

Department Overview

The Rocklin GI Lab is a satellite of the centralized GI service line embedded in the Folsom Clinic. It features two procedural rooms, four pre/post-procedural bays, and onsite scope reprocessing. On average, the lab completes 12 procedures daily. 

The UC Davis Medical Group, Rocklin has the following specialties: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Breast Health, Nutrition Services, ENT, Audiology, Pulmonology, Vascular Medicine, General and Colorectal Surgery, Gastroenterology/Hepatology, Hematology/Oncology, Infusion, and Pain Management. The Medical Group also offers Laboratory and Imaging Services. It is located in the Placer Center for Health, 550 West Ranch View Drive, Suite 2005, Rocklin, CA.

 

Department Specific Job Scope

Registered Nurses in the Rocklin GI Lab at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult patients with a variety of medical needs. The position will primarily function in the GI Lab and support the clinic. The nurse will be competent in knowledge of all GI equipment and expected to prepare endoscopes for disinfection. Based on the department's operational needs, the GI nurse may work overtime, float to other GI procedure areas, and float to the clinic as needed.
