SCM: Distribution & Logistics is a multifunctional organization with five separate locations providing services to the Davis campus and medical-center community. It is comprised of the Aggie Surplus & Services, Mail Services, Central Receiving, SCM Stores, Microscope Services and related programs.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including the delivery and processing of campus and US bulk and non-bulk mail.


Job Summary

Under supervision, incumbents perform a variety of duties related to the delivery and processing of U.S., campus mail, and bulk mailings in accordance with campus and US Postal Services (USPS) rules and regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position requires lifting up to 70 lbs. Ability to safely perform heavy tasks using continuous movement (e.g. stoop, bend, reach, twist; climb, squat, etc.) to lift and move cumbersome objects.
  • Work in areas with heavy accumulation of paper dust.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods.
  • Incumbent must wear protective clothing (i.e. steel toed shoes, gloves, hard hat, etc.).

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation
  • Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System
  • A valid California Drivers License is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule; work occasional overtime; work occasional varied lunch hours, and work occasional weekends and holidays. Restricted vacation during peak periods.
  • Remain flexible and willing to work/travel to UCDH Mail Services in Sacramento. When assigned to work at UCDH Mail Services, must participate in UCDH's Medical Clearance Program that involves a TB skin test, and confirmation of immune status for measles, rubella, and varicella.
  • Position requires employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Compliance with UC Vaccine Policy is required.
  • Compliance with SCM: Distribution & Logistics Uniform Policy is required.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge, understanding and experience working with US Postal Regulations to process all types of mail including bulk mail classes.
  • Experience working with mail processing and material handling equipment, such as, inkjet, inserter, folding and meter machines, automated mail sorters, etc.
  • Experience safely operating vehicles exceeding 3,400 pounds in busy pedestrian/bicycle traffic areas.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill to safely and effectively operate powered and non-powered material handling equipment (e.g., gas and electric forklifts, hand trucks and flat carts etc.)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software (e.g., handheld scanners, email, internet navigation, Microsoft Excel, Satori sorting software, SC Logic, Federal Express Ship Manager, Oracle, MOS, etc.).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

  • Experience receiving, handling and shipping hazardous materials.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of campus departments and locations
