Job Summary

The Director for Educational Initiatives of the Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (CEDD) manages a large HRSA-funded program (Autism Intervention Research Network in Behavioral Health). The Director for Educational Initiatives engages community agencies and provides training and support to implement the Mind the Gap program. 

This position is the UC Davis MIND Institute Partner and Representative of the Leadership Team of CAPTAIN (California Autism Professional Training and Information Network) and serves as the co-lead for the UC Davis MIND Super Hub ECHO team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Educational Program Development, Implementation, and Evaluation
  • CEDD Leadership Responsibilities
  • Project Management
  • Community Collaborative Advisory Workgroups
  • Intervention Program Design and Implementation

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience managing research and treatment projects
  • Demonstrated 10 years of experience providing training and technical assistance related to Autism and Neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Demonstrated 5 years of experience serving on an ECHO Hub team
  • Ability to train other ECHO teams off-site (Superhub trained)
  • Recognized as a National Expert in the dissemination and implementation of Autism evidence-based practices
  • Experience in school and community settings serving students with Autism and Neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Experience as a supervisor of educators and professionals in Autism and Neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Excels in supporting individuals with supervisory and management skills and experience
  • Experience in implementing empirically based educational/intervention strategies for children and adults with Autism and Neurodevelopmental disabilities in home and community settings
  • Experience training and supervising others to design and implement interventions at high levels of fidelity of implementation
  • Experience and training in the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills to manage a variety of complex research project tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership ability involving the ability to organize, supervise, and encourage personnel, develop business plans and budgets, manage budgets, and conduct strategic planning based on evaluation data
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently, taking initiative, making critical decisions, communicating ideas, and contributing actively to a team
  • Cultural sensitivity to communities with disabilities and other challenges
  • Experience with cross-site coordination and collaboration
  • Excellent public speaking skills in public lectures and presentation of scientific data to statewide leaders and policymakers
  • Excellent skills in providing engaging, interactive, and meaningful training using research-based strategies supporting adult learning and engagement
  • Skills and experience writing teaching materials, procedure manuals, strategic plans, and reports
  • Skills and expertise in providing strategic guidance and education to CEDD leaders, policymakers, and state leaders about best practices for provider professional development and autism service implementation, including market threats and opportunities
  • Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and a professional, respectful work environment exists at all times
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain friendly positive interactions to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate, and caring manner and to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor
  • Organizational skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and arrive prepared and on time to all appointments

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Licensure or certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst 
  • A valid CA Driver's license 
  • An MA or PhD in Psychology, Education, or a related field

 

Department Description

 

The UC Davis MIND Institute is an interdisciplinary research, clinical, and educational center committed to deepening our scientific understanding of the challenges associated with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions. It is a matrix organization and encompasses over 250 faculty and staff from 14 academic departments with an annual operating budget of approximately $4 million, contract awards totaling approximately $16 million, and gifts and endowments valued at approximately $25 million. The MIND Institute also houses 2 sponsored center grants: the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (NIH), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (AUCD); 3 federally sponsored training grants: Autism Research Training Program (NIH), Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric Fellowship Program (HRSA), and the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (HRSA); and 2 programmatic infrastructure grants: the Research Network for Creating Partnerships with Diverse and Underrepresented Communities (PCORI) and Redwood SEED Scholars (DoEd). The MIND Institute also has an outpatient clinic with approximately 8,000 visits per year. 

CAPTAIN is a multifaceted and multilayered program including collaborators within UC Davis and without (medical centers, school systems, regional centers, CSUS, and community agencies). CAPTAIN is a cross-agency network developed to support the understanding and use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for individuals affected by Autism across the State of California. 

The Mind the Gap program is a program for families of young children with a diagnosis of Autism or other developmental concerns who need support to access the service system.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Travel to community sites in the greater Sacramento Region, including schools and community agencies. Occasional, in-state overnight travel is required
