Description
The UC Irvine Department of Otolaryngology seeks a part-time or full-time assistant researcher with experience in CRISPR or gene therapy to work on inner ear therapeutics in cell culture and animals. The successful candidate should have a background in molecular genetics and will be overseeing the design and implementation of inner ear therapeutics in cell culture and eventually animal models.
The goal of this position is to transition the successful candidate to become a faculty member.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Hands-on experience analyzing DNA/RNAs methods or proteins (ELISA, qPCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry, western blot, and other techniques)
- Proficient in molecular biology techniques common in upstream research, including molecular cloning, viral vector production and tittering, processing genomic DNA and RNA for downstream analysis
- Hands-on experience altering the genome of mammalian cells with gene editing and gene delivery techniques using CRISPR-based tools and/or using viral vectors (AAV, lentiviral, adenovirus, etc) or mRNA
- Develop and execute assays for characterizing CRISPR or viral-based gene delivery constructs such as cell type specificity & expression
- Experience in CRISPR work or hearing in animals is a plus but not required
- Critically evaluate experiment data and communicate scientific findings as verbal presentations and written reports
- Aid in preparing presentations, reports, and journal/conference publications
- Assist with grant applications as needed
