Summary of Job Duties: A Research Associate III position is available in the IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (https://biochemistry.uams.edu/). Applicant will work in the National Resource team to process user samples and maintain operational equipment. Duties will include maintenance of equipment within the resource (mass spectrometers and liquid chromatography systems), preparation of samples for processing, conducting quality control procedures on all instrumentation, assisting in the development of new workflows to be implemented in the resource, and performing experiments as requested by resource leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field
  • Seven (7) years of research experience
  • Knowledge of protein purification and/or preparation, western blot, immunoprecipitation, cell culture, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometers and liquid chromatography equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain and use literature databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Thermo Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
  • Ability to use proteomics database software such as Scaffold, Skyline, or similar software packages.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

 Maintenance and operation of laboratory mass spectrometers

  • Ensuring continuous, reliable operation of mass spectrometers and liquid chromatography systems.
  • Performing quality control and periodic maintenance for mass spectrometers and liquid chromatography systems.
  • Assisting with trouble shooting instrument errors and malfunctions.

Participation in mass spectrometry laboratory operations

  • Preparing and processing samples submitted to the resource.
  • Ensuring lab safety and institutional compliance.
  • Writing/updating standard operating procedures.

Performing technology development experiments as requested by supervisor

  • Reviewing scientific literature to monitor new proteomics techniques and approaches.
  • Assisting the design, implementation of novel, cutting-edge proteomics techniques, with the ultimate goal of adding these techniques as a billable service through the National Resource
