Summary of Job Duties: The Manager of Clinical Research is responsibile for administrative leadership and supervisory oversight of Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) and Data Analysts (DAs). Assists in hiring process and training of CRCs and DAs and routinely evaluates staff performance, counsels and mentors direct reports, and initiates disciplinary action when necessary. Will serve as the technical expert for data collection and management for their team. Position must be able to organize complex projects, provide attention to detail, and communicate effectively. Manages the day-to-day operations and objectives in support of the assigned portfolio. Contributes information and ideas related to areas of responsibility as part of a cross functional team. Ensures effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards for staff/program and self. Develops and reviews departmental/divisional standard operating procedures. Maintains a working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations and the code of conduct for human research. Works directly with pharmaceutical company sponsors, cooperative group personnel, institutional investigators, research staff, clinical staff, and various support staff across UAMS campus. Conducts complex work important to the organization. Contributes to measurable team and/or organization objectives.
Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Seven (7) years of clinical research experience w/demonstrated proficiency in study planning/development, study coordination/management and data collection

  • CCRP, CCRC, or equivalent; Obtain CRS Certification required within 2 years of hire.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of clinical biomedical and/or behavioral research

  • Working knowledge of Federal Good Clinical Practice Guidelines

  • Ability to operate independently under limited supervision, determining methods and procedures on new assignments

  • Skill and ability to communicate with others verbally or in writing to provide or obtain information and to counsel to gain a particular outcome

  • Skill and ability to provide functional guidance, leadership, and/or supervision to other staff

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred

  • Skill and ability to compile, analyze, and summarize data

  • Knowledge and skill with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)

  • Skill and ability to organize and prioritize tasks

  • Skill and ability to attend to details

  • Skill and ability to cope with work activities that may be repetitive in nature

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of data and records


Preferred:

  • Master's Degree

  • Oncology research experience

  • National clinical research certification greater than three (3) years


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the development and management of clinical research protocols.

  • Tracks, monitors, and reports trial performance metrics to investigators.

  • Advises the PI on study and data collection requirements.

  • Monitors and facilitates proposals through the study conduct and oversight process.

  • Interprets institutional, sponsor, and regulatory authority policies related to clinical trial data collection, management, and reporting to ensure departmental adherence.

  • Represents the department and investigators at local, regional and national meetings; facilitate effective communication among staff, PIs and other research/clinical professionals, senior leaders of UAMS, and study sponsors.

  • Assists with development, implementation, and maintenance of quality assurance plans, training materials, and SOPs.

  • Serves as the general administrator and liaison for the PI, research subjects, human testing compliance, privacy/HIPAA compliance, other research and clinical professionals, and the granting or funding entity relative to the research protocol.

  • Manage the collection and transmission of samples, scheduling of clinical visits and tests, and the collection, processing, and reporting of data.

  • Other duties as assigned.
