Summary of Job Duties: The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences' (UAMS) Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship is a one-year program that boasts a core faculty with national prominence and a clinical practice that performs high volumes of primary and complex revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
Qualifications:

  • Will have completed ACGME accredited Orthopaedic residency prior to start of fellowship

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in large-scale total joint practice with a strong emphasis in learning both primary and revision surgical techniques, including the three major approaches to the hip – anterolateral, posterior, and direct anterior, as well as complex hip and knee revision surgery, and arthroplasty-related trauma, including peri-prosthetic fractures and infections. This non-ACGME fellowship is ideal for someone who is interested in complex revision arthroplasty, as 25-33% of the caseload includes surgical management of periprosthetic joint infections, failed and conversion arthroplasty, and other revision procedures. Throughout the year, the fellow will also learn to practice cost-conscious implant selection through exposure to a variety of implant manufacturers.
  • As a host site for the John N. Insall Traveling Fellowship, the fellow will have the unique experience to participate and interact with these national and international knee surgeons during their visit. In addition, the fellow will have an extensive opportunity to teach and supervise residents and medical students as well as actively participate in our weekly case-based adult reconstruction conference. The fellow will work closely with the faculty in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and gain increased clinical and surgical responsibility, with the goal of operating independently and managing a complex surgical spine caseload by the end of the fellowship.
