Summary of Job Duties: The APRN is a skilled health care provider and has completed an organized program of nursing education that certifies the nurse for an advanced practice role as an APRN in acute care pediatrics. This position will manage the care of pediatric patients with Allergy and immunology-related disorders under the medical supervision of the Allergy and Immunology Physician. This position is additionally involved in education and consultation at various levels and is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS Department of Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. The A/I APRN also interacts closely with other peer APRNS, specialty nurses, administrative staff, support staff, and other health care workers continually.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Masters in Nursing.

  • Current RN License, National Certification as an APRN in Pediatrics (primary or acute) or National Certification eligible as an APRN in Pediatrics (primary or acute) with certification obtained by hire date.

  • APRN License and prescriptive authority certification granted by the Arkansas Board of Nursing (ASBN) in accordance with all state and federal laws by the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients:  perinatal and past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.

  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychological, educational, and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.

  • Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.

  • Interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.

  • Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.

  • Documents all health data and plan of care and care according to policy.

  • Evaluates patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.

  • Documents the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.

  • Completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-10) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws in a timely manner.

  • Communicates with referring physicians, allied health providers and hospital staff as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates effective delegation skills for patient care to other members of the health care team and ensures task completion.

  • Demonstrates self-directed and purposeful behavior in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency and enhance career goals.

  • Maintains and expands clinical and professional expertise by completing appropriate continuing education (e.g. in-services, journals, workshops, etc.) related to current practice area and role responsibilities

  • Uses mentoring and role modeling skills to promote positive patient outcomes and professionalism.

  • Shares knowledge and expertise with nursing staff and other members of the health care team.

  • Initiates/participates in quality improvement projects to ensure the best standard of care is being consistently provided.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
