Overview:

As Director and Assistant General Counsel, you will oversee and manage adversarial legal proceedings, including arbitrations, mediations, and administrative law proceedings with a particular emphasis on employment litigation. You will be responsible for guiding cases through all phases, from investigation through pre-trial, trial, and post-trial. Collaborating with senior management, external counsel, and cross-functional teams, you will develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee assigned litigation and pre-litigation proceedings, including demand and tender letters, administrative law matters, and litigation
  • Develop and execute legal strategies for litigation and claims management, aligning with corporate objectives.
  • Direct all phases of litigation, from investigation and discovery to trial preparation and post-trial proceedings
  • Collaborate with external counsel and oversee their performance to ensure high-quality representation
  • Provide expert legal advice to senior management on potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Monitor legal trends, regulatory changes, and precedents to inform litigation strategies and ensure compliance
  • Lead and mentor legal professionals, fostering development and ensuring the delivery of business objectives
  • Manage budgets and resources for litigation and claims matters, ensuring cost-effectiveness
  • Negotiate settlements and resolutions in alignment with corporate priorities and stakeholder interests
  • Contribute to the development of corporate policies and organizational strategies related to legal matters

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including managing complex litigation, arbitration, and claims processes. At least 5 years in a leadership or management role within a legal function
  • Extensive knowledge of litigation and claims management practices
  • Proven ability to develop litigation strategies
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience interacting with management and key stakeholders
  • Exceptional problem-solving capabilities for complex and ambiguous legal issues
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal matters effectively
  • Exceptional legal writing skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing and mentoring legal professionals
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Prior in-house legal counsel experience in a large corporate or multi-national organization is a plus

 

Salary Range: 

The salary for this position is anticipated to range between $170,000 - $240,000 annually, plus eligibility for bonus pay, subject to plan terms.

Pay is based on qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training and other considerations permitted by law. We consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with applicable law.
