Empower new families and nurture healthy beginnings: Join us as a Lactation Consultant! We are looking for a Registered Nurse who is passionate about maternal health and infant care to join the Thompson Birthing Center as a Lactation Consultant.
Full time, D/E, with weekends, holidays and on call per unit standards shared among the Lactation consultant team. This role is dedicated to inpatient and ambulatory consultations in the prenatal and postpartum period conducted on the Birthing Center.
Main Function
- Conduct inpatient and outpatient breastfeeding/chest-feeding assessments, and provide individualized assistance to patients and their babies
- Perform consultations, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent
- Offer advice and practical techniques on positioning, latching, milk supply management, and breastfeeding/chest-feeding goals
- Promote evidence-based practice and education to patients on the benefits of breastfeeding/chest-feeding
- Provide breastfeeding/chest-feeding education support to other health care professionals
Required Job Specific Competencies
- Demonstrates skill in the performance of lactation assessment
- Demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation
- Interacts appropriately with parents and presents information in a clear and accurate manner
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing assignments
- Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with associates, patients & physicians
Education
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is preferred
- Current CLC with the expectation to obtain IBCLC within 1 year of hire
- A graduate of an approved school of nursing-required
- BSN-preferred
Qualifications
- NY State License as a Registered Nurse-required
- Current BLS certification-required
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation-required
Experience
- Two years minimum working with breastfeeding mothers and babies in inpatient hospital setting
- Recent experience in one of the following areas: pediatrics, antepartum, intrapartum or postpartum/couplet care
- In-hospital Lactation Consultant experience preferred
Pay Range: $37.00-50.00/hour
Starting Pay: Based on Experience
