Main Job Function:
- Director of Obstetric Nursing has the responsibility, authority and accountability for the clinical, financial and personnel management of designated areas of clinical practice on a 24-hour basis.
- Leads the unit in a goal-directed manner, which is congruent with the nursing service hospital and system goals and philosophies.
- Accountable for the coordination and integration of clinical and administrative functions of their designated areas.
- Works closely with the VP Patient Care Services/ CNO and the Medical Directors of the Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics departments in assuring and meeting the strategic imperatives for the hospital.
- Assures regulatory and legal compliance and provides leadership, vision and direction for their department.
- Excellent customer service and clinical quality are articulated and formulated into operational plans and monitoring of outcomes.
- Responsible for fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships within the department and institution as a whole.
Education/Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing
- Must possess a valid NYS nursing license
- A BSN is required
- MS in nursing is preferred or must be completed within 5 years of hire
- Certification in relevant clinical specialty or nursing administration will be required within 1 year of hire
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of healthcare management experience is required.
- Evidence of career advancement and progressive increase in responsibilities within the healthcare environment is essential. Demonstration of sound ethical principles, advanced communication skills and interpersonal skills development is necessary. A proven record of project management is required.
Supervisory Responsibility/Supervision Received:
- Directly reports to the VP Patient Care Service/CNO.
- Responsible for the clinical, financial and personnel management of the Birthing Center 24 hours/day. Leads this unit in a goal-directed manner, which is congruent with the Nursing Department and hospital goals and philosophies.
- Assures the completion of annual performance and competencies of those who directly report to the position in a manner consistent with the System standards and expectations.

Position Salary Range: $115,000-135,000/year
Starting Salary: Based on experience
