Project Summary: 

The Increased Demand and Engagement for Accountability (IDEA) Activity is a six-and-a-half-year initiative by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). IDEA aims to support civil society organizations to be more effective in advancing democratic values of citizen participation, government accountability, and rights protection at local and national levels. The IDEA program seeks to support Sri Lankan civil society organizations (CSOs) and CSO-led networks to collaborate more effectively and engage proactively and productively with the government on key issues related to good governance, fundamental rights, gender equality, and sustainable development. IDEA also delivers a comprehensive and targeted capacity building component to support local organizations in developing their organizational and institutional capacities. Initiatives are designed and tailor-made to develop Sri Lankan CSOs technical, management, financial, and monitoring capacities, making them more strategic, inclusive, adaptive, and accountable in performing their role in a democratic society.

Position Summary:

The Web Development Designer will develop and design websites for civil society organizations (CSOs). The Designer will work with the IDEA project team to design and launch client websites based on close consultation with local CSO partners. The Web Development Designer will report to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) and receive technical support from the Senior Communications and Knowledge Management Officer. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Propose and assist in purchasing a website domain and preferred hosting.
  • Determine user needs, analyze technical requirements and technical expertise of client, and select a suitable platform for website development.
  • Create website wireframes/mockups using suitable wireframe tools for review and integrating feedback.
  • Design and develop responsive and user-friendly websites according to client needs, ensuring the website is accessible through multiple devices including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and is compliant with international accessibility standards.
  • Ensure performance, privacy, accessibility, and SEO of the website is in accordance with optimum standards.
  • Implement effective security protocols, data protection measures, backup processes, and storage solutions.
  • Assist with bug fixing, quality control, administrative support, technical, and security maintenance for a period of three months.
  • Provide a brief training on website maintenance and content management to the client to ensure uninterrupted website management and updates.
  • Provide the full source code and design files upon website completion.   

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT/Web Development or related field required.
  • Minimum three years of working experience in website development, design, and maintenance is required.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of past web development, design and management products for submission is required.
  • Working proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, is required.
  • Knowledge in CMS such WordPress, Joomla or Drupal is preferred.
  • Strong skills in HTML5/CSS3 and other related technologies preferred.
  • Skills in responsive web design and emerging design technologies preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English and fluency in at least one national language, such as Sinhala or Tamil, are required. Proficiency in second language preferred.
