Project Summary
Tetra Tech is implementing the recently awarded, five-year USAID Power Africa Empower West Africa (EWA) Activity. Building on a decade of Power Africa success, EWA aims to close the energy poverty gap in the region by increasing supply of and access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity. By 2029, EWA aims to establish six million new electricity connections; reach financial close for 2,500 megawatts of new generation capacity; construct 1,500 kilometers of new power lines; and achieve sales of 40,000 productive use of energy (PUE) devices.
Position Summary
Tetra Tech seeks an experienced professional to serve as Technical Editor/Writer for the Power Africa Empower West Africa Activity. This full-time position will provide technical writing, coordination, and capacity building services for the Activity. The Technical Editor/Writer will be responsible for synthesizing complex information into clear, concise, and engaging narrative, adhering to Power Africa reporting requirements, collaborating with the team to meet deliverable deadlines. The successful candidate will work closely with Tetra Tech's home office communications team, two communications specialists in the region, and project leaders. Hiring is contingent upon USAID approval.
Position Responsibilities
- Draft, consolidate, edit, and finalize high-quality, Power Africa-compliant deliverables by gathering inputs from teams across the West Africa region and ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with Power Africa guidelines and standards. Deliverables include reports, presentations, social media, briefing memos, and other resources requested by project leaders and/or the client.
- Support the technical team with drafting and editing technical reports, such as assessments, studies, and trip reports.
- Play a prominent role in developing and preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Collaborate with technical teams and communications specialists to gather data, edit, and validate weekly progress reports.
- Act as the focal point for collecting and integrating data into Empower West Africa deliverables.
- Develop and manage tracking and reporting tools.
- Ensure deliverables meet Power Africa requirements, use the appropriate templates, and adhere to a production schedule to meet client deadlines.
- Ensure reports follow USAID branding requirements and quality assurance standards.
- Train staff on reporting requirements and best practices and develop simplified guides, templates, or checklists to improve reporting quality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, including English, Communications, Journalism, International Development, Global Studies, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Energy-related studies.
- At least five years of technical writing, editing, and/or communications experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to edit a range of technical documents and public communications (e.g., reports, proposals, brochures, articles, presentations, blogs, social media).
- Demonstrated ability to apply client style and branding guidelines.
- Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- Extreme precision and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with people of different backgrounds, personalities, experiences, and levels of authority.
- Excellent multitasking, analytical, and prioritizing skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and engaging narratives.
- Proven ability to manage internal and external client expectations.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred but not Required Qualifications
- Experience writing or editing content on a range of energy sector issues.
- Demonstrated experience in reporting for USAID and knowledge of USAID reporting requirements and branding requirements (ADS 320).
- Experience working with dispersed and/or international teams via email, cloud collaboration, and applications such as Microsoft Teams to coordinate assignments and deliverables.
- Professional proficiency in French.
