Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to our Western Canada Dam Engineering team based in Edmonton, Calgary, or Lethbridge, AB.

Your Role:
- Perform dam inspections for dam safety related work, including annual operation inspections.
- Develop and oversee dam safety related geotechnical evaluations of dams, monitoring and testing programs, and analysis of results.
- Oversee reporting including required DSRs, DSIs and assessment and design reports.
- Supporting the development of detailed design plans and tender documents.
- Support Construction Management activities including full time inspections.
- Management of clients, projects, deliverables, proposal writing, cost estimating, scheduling.
- Manage the progress and development of remedial designs of earth and rock fill embankment dams, and various other water-impounding structures.
- Provide dam safety training and mentorship to junior staff and clients.
- Report and present findings to clients and regulators.
- Undertake project-based travel and site work, both within Western Canada and beyond as required. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needs.
- Lead report preparation, able to prepare or direct completion of technical documents including descriptions of investigations, results, conclusions and recommendations for review by senior staff.
- Participate in Business Development (BD) activities including preparing or providing input to proposals, and conferences.
- Display a ‘safety first' attitude, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhering to Company health and safety policy and procedures.
- Executing projects in compliance with Tetra Tech Canada Quality Management System procedures, communicate with team and client, reconcile financials, and archive files upon completion.
- Maintaining current knowledge of leading-edge dam safety and project management practices.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering required. Master's in Engineering is preferable.
- 15+ years of demonstrable dam safety experience which includes working with CDA guidance documents, BC Dam Safety documents, HSRC Code, dam safety evaluations, and dam engineering analysis, design and construction.
- Registered P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) in British Columbia and/or Alberta/other provinces.
- Proficient with various design software e.g. GeoStudio (SLOPE/W, etc.), Rocscience, AllPile, and/or HEC-RAS, AutoCAD and ArcGIS software.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions with input and review from senior staff/management would be considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience writing technical reports and project proposals would be considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with project management capabilities would be considered an asset.
- Confident in managing professional relationships including liaison with clients would be considered an asset.
