Tetra Tech's High Performance Building Division is hiring a highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team of multi-disciplinary engineers. The Engineer will conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis for electrical equipment and/or mechanical equipment and processes through construction knowledge and engineering principles. Electrical equipment types included, but not limited to low, medium, and high voltage, switchgear, panelboards and transformers, data and communication systems, fire alarm systems, lighting systems, etc. Facility types include power generating and distribution systems, commercial and industrial facilities, municipal buildings and infrastructure assets, and residential properties.

Your Contributions will Include

  • Prepare, review, or modify electrical substation systems and designs, one-line diagrams, AC and DC schematic development, relay protection and controls, wiring design, equipment layouts, conduit and raceways, bus work, grounding, power risers, elevation diagrams, control buildings, electrical floor plans, lighting designs, switchgear, battery systems, site layouts, grid interconnectivity, communications, DC to AC conversions, and detail sheets.
  • Incorporate design changes using Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate electrical equipment lists with mechanical, structural, and civil disciplines.
  • Prepare project-specific technical specifications using CSI and SpecsIntact standard.
  • Perform service load calculations and power systems analysis.
  • Meet project schedules and performing work within budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare status reports, basis-of-design descriptions, project manuals, responses to client comments, technical memoranda, and other project-related documentation.
  • Review submittals and providing responses to Requests for Information.
  • Field investigation and facility startup support services as needed. 

Required Qualifications:

  • 11+ years of electrical engineering and consulting experience, within utility and/or commercial medium voltage distribution and substation design industry.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • Possess PE certification or the ability to obtain licensure within 1 years.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of NEC, NESC, and other regulations associated with electrical safety, substations, and construction.
  • Proficient with the use of AutoCAD, Revit, and Power system modeling software (e.g. SKM Power*Tools, EasyPower, PLS-CADD, or ETAP).
  • Design of substations and medium to high voltage distribution systems
  • Comfortable working with suppliers, vendors, construction contractors, and facility owners
  • A valid driver's license, and ability to travel to client offices and project sites, good driving record.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) standards a plus.
  • Interactions with utility power, grid systems, and interfaces
  • Experience with solar power, design, development, and interactions.
  • DoD Security Clearance a plus.
  • Usage of SEL products
