The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking Safety Professionals to lead safety management and ensure compliance with U.S. and international safety standards on overseas OBO projects.
Project Summary:
Tetra Tech supports the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) in delivering secure, resilient, and sustainable diplomatic facilities worldwide. Our projects include the construction of New Embassy Compounds (NECs), Consulate renovations, and utility optimization projects in diverse environments. These large-scale, technically complex facilities often encompass:
• New Embassy Compounds (NECs): multi-building campuses with New Office Buildings (NOBs), Marine Security Guard Residences (MSGR), Support Annexes (SPX), Utility Buildings (UTL), and Compound Access Control (CAC) facilities.
• Selective Renovations: modernization of building systems in fully occupied historic facilities, requiring phased construction and sensitive protection of finishes.
• Utility Optimization Projects: integration of solar energy and battery storage, HVAC upgrades, water/sewage treatment, and energy efficiency retrofits
Assignments typically range from 12–48 months and require working in challenging overseas environments, including occupied facilities, tropical climates, and high-security compounds.
Position Summary:
Provide site-wide safety leadership, compliance monitoring, and risk management.
Responsibilities:
• Inspect contractor safety programs and site conditions daily.
• Develop and manage Injury/Illness Prevention Programs.
• Review and enforce emergency evacuation and response plans.
• Investigate accidents and implement corrective measures.
• Ensure OSHA recordkeeping and compliance with EM 385-1-1.
Qualifications
• Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist required.
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30-hour or 40-hour construction safety certification required.
• Minimum of seven years of construction safety management experience.
• Strong knowledge of the United States Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual (Manual 385-1-1) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
• Overseas construction experience preferred.
• Active United States government security clearance at the Secret level required.
