The Opportunity:

The Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC), based in Brisbane, plays a vital role in Australia's rapid and coordinated humanitarian response across the Indo-Pacific. As Response Coordinator, you will contribute to HLC's humanitarian response and service order management activities by providing essential operational and administrative support.

Reporting to the Humanitarian Response Lead, you will work closely with and support the Response Operations Managers in the delivery of HLC activities and activations. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to assist with logistics planning, coordination, deployment, and operational readiness across the program. You will also engage with key partners, including DFAT, ADF, and humanitarian organisations, helping to ensure the timely and flexible delivery of emergency relief.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in humanitarian logistics, working as part of a high-performing team and contributing to the effective delivery of emergency supplies to communities in need.

The Program: Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC)

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC) facilitates the timely, effective, and flexible delivery of the Australian Government's humanitarian assistance and emergency relief program around the world, providing high quality, multifaceted, flexible and responsive project management and humanitarian supply chain solutions in support of Australia's Humanitarian Emergency Relief activities.

The goal of HLC is to facilitate humanitarian action that saves lives, alleviates suffering, and enhances human dignity during and in the aftermath of conflict, disasters, and other humanitarian crises. The HLC warehouse in Brisbane maintains the largest stockpile of prepositioned humanitarian emergency relief supplies within the Southern Hemisphere, with the capacity to respond to three simultaneous crises and can support at least 11,000 families – or 50,000 people.

Tetra Tech International Development, as the Implementing Contractor for the HLC, will work closely with DFAT, other Commonwealth response capabilities, international organisations and humanitarian partners to implement HLC operations and activities across all aspects of program management and delivery.

Your Role:

  • Support HLC logistics planning and coordination, including provision of logistics advice, managing service orders, and participating in response planning meetings.
  • Coordinate deployment and movement of logistics and technical staff, including cargo prepositioning and liaison with ADF and other partners.
  • Support operational readiness and response activities, including duty phone roster, export documentation, manifests, and technical preparation of stores and equipment.
  • Contribute to after action reviews, lessons learnt activities and support the development and implementation of policies for effective humanitarian response.
  • Incorporate cross-cutting priorities (GEDSI, Greening, Localisation, Innovation, Partnerships, Indigenous engagement) into all response operations.
  • Establish and maintain operational coordination and positive relationships with partners, adjacent response organisations, and key stakeholders.

About You:

You are a logistics professional with exposure to humanitarian assistance and emergency relief. You bring experience in logistics operations, ideally within the Pacific, and thrive in complex and challenging environments. You are collaborative, culturally responsive, and committed to inclusive practice, able to build trust with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex ideas with clarity.

You will possess:

  • Experience in humanitarian assistance, emergency relief, and logistics operations services, ideally in complex and challenging environments.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, prioritisation, problem-solving, and organisational agility to manage complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams and contexts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks inherent to emergency response environments (reasonable adjustments considered).
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods and associated certifications are also highly desirable.
