About the role

As the Technical Lead within the Fire Engineering Global Specialist Group, you will draw on your extensive knowledge and competencies to perform independent work, as well as review and verify the work of your team. You will establish a strong market presence and cultivate client relationships whilst managing stakeholders and resource allocation throughout project delivery. Collaborating with NDY's global network of fire engineers and other Tetra Tech businesses will also be an essential component of this role.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fire Engineer to lead our fire engineering teams across Auckland and Wellington. As the NZ Lead, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality fire safety solutions, managing technical resources and staff, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the fire engineering team across both offices.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of innovative fire safety engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects.
  • Be active in the market winning work. Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated fire safety strategies.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Conduct technical reviews and offer expert guidance on complex fire engineering challenges.
  • Promote a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and documentation for stakeholders

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with the ability to provide Producer Statements for Auckland Council (high risk)
  • Demonstrated experience in fire engineering design and project management, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
