Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP)

The Mekong-Australia Partnership Phase 2 Support Unit (MAP SU), funded by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), aims to provide efficient and effective support and enabling services, and delivery of selected MAP activities as directed by the Mekong Hub at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand to ensure that Australia is a trusted and visible partner in supporting a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Mekong subregion.

MAP SU delivers the Leadership and Skills program and enabling services for the Transnational Crime (MAP-TNC) program. It also supports programming by providing administrative, logistical and/or technical support and assistance in the execution of parts of MAP such as organising events, conducting training or managing specific components.

About the role

The Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Adviser, based in Bangkok, will lead the integration of GEDSI principles across all MAP SU operations, activities and stakeholder engagements. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Adviser will provide technical and strategic guidance to staff, partners and implementers, ensuring equitable access and inclusive participation of women, people with disabilities and other underrepresented groups. Key responsibilities include developing practical tools, frameworks and training to embed GEDSI into program design, delivery and monitoring; strengthening organizational capacity; and fostering meaningful stakeholder collaboration. By amplifying diverse voices and building local capabilities, the Adviser will support MAP SU's mission to create a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Mekong subregion.


Key responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with DFAT and Tetra Tech standards, including gender equality, disability, and social inclusion.
  • Facilitate program reviews, learning products, and knowledge sharing across stakeholders.
  • Develop practical tools and resources to embed inclusive practices in recruitment, procurement, communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Coordinate targeted learning and mentoring initiatives, leveraging opportunistic entry points to advance equality and equity
  • Lead the MAP SU GEDSI Plan, ensuring strategic alignment with Phase 2 design, MAP service standards and DFAT's GEDSI Strategy


Selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in international development, social sciences, gender/disability studies or public policy, plus 10+ years' GEDSI leadership in DFAT or donor-funded programs
  • Proven track record designing, operationalising and embedding intersectional gender-equality and disability-inclusion frameworks, tools and strategies
  • Extensive experience in program implementation, training delivery and cross-cultural stakeholder engagement, with strong team leadership and communication
  • Deep expertise in GEDSI principles, intersectional data collection and analysis, monitoring & evaluation, gender-norms analysis and inclusive safeguarding
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical, inclusive practice and full compliance with DFAT safeguarding using opportunistic, equity-driven approaches
  • Outstanding interpersonal and strategic collaboration skills, adept at building diverse relationships, sharing actionable insights and driving continuous learning
