About Australia Assists

Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society, and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.

Australia Assists Phase 2 (2024-2029) will build on the initial seven-year phase by further enhancing Australia's global humanitarian efforts through strategic deployments of humanitarian personnel. These deployments will address the needs and priorities of Australia's multilateral, bilateral and civil society partners, aligning with Australia's humanitarian, development, and foreign policy priorities.

Humanitarian specialists from the Australia Assists roster will be mobilised to work with partners across the Indo-Pacific region and globally, before, during and after humanitarian crises. The program takes a strengths-based approach, recognising and reinforcing local leadership, building on existing capabilities, and promoting equity and inclusion. This ensures that outcomes are impactful, sustainable, and tailored to the unique needs of each community.

The Australia Assists program team will serve to implement and manage the program, on behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders. Program roles may include functions such as program leadership, program management, human resources and deployment support, finance and administration, Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), and communications and public diplomacy.
